Free agency has been one of the biggest stories in wrestling this year. Names like Mercedes Mone, Jacob Fatu, Kazuchika Okada, and Giulia have popped up in other organizations, kicking off the next phase of their storied careers. It looks like 2025 will not slow down in that department too much, as there are several performers who may potentially become free agents. Josh Alexander is one of them and he can be the biggest signing of the year.

Alexander’s contract is reportedly set to end in February 2025. It would have ended in 2024, but TNA used its option to keep him in the company for another year. Now, it looks like the multiple-time champion is heading to test the free agency waters. A move that could be lucrative and beneficial for his long-term plan.

“I can’t say I want to leave TNA. It’s just, I have never hit free agency,” Alexander said when speaking to WrestleManiac UK. “I have never been the belle of the ball. I’ve never seen what offers are out there from other companies. I think I’d be doing myself and my family a disservice by not seeing what’s out there. I’m going to keep following my heart with it and we’ll see where that leads.”

Where can that lead? All Elite Wrestling has shown that stars can get major deals there, bringing in six and seven-figure deals. Several top names have also signed with WWE, looking to join the biggest promotion in the business.

Alexander is an uber-talented professional wrestler. He can hang with the best talents in the game, regardless of style. But he can also do the job of a sports entertainer as well. He’s one of those performers who can fit both molds, regardless of what company he’s in. Both AEW and WWE should chase after him, as he’d be a major player on either roster. In fact, not only should both companies chase after him, but he stands to be one of, if not the biggest available free agent next year. He should be treated as such, as he has all the abilities necessary to greatly impact an organization, regardless of where he will sign.

The business of professional wrestling is booming. WWE continues to bring in record profits each year, and AEW is on the cusp of announcing a new television deal. That surge in business should trickle down the performers in the ring. As they negotiate and sign new deals, this is the time for them to get what is due. Josh Alexander stands to be one of the names coming up in free agency and he may be the biggest new contract signed in 2025.
