Mariah May is the right choice to defeat Toni Storm

Mariah May has long stood besides Toni Storm and that makes her the perfect woman to take the AEW Women's World Championship.

Toni Storm is the darling of the AEW women’s division and rightfully so. She’s 156 days into her third title reign, and this entire run has been a testament to her character development. Everyone knew she was great in the ring, but her “Timeless” gimmick is perhaps her best work to date. But how will this title reign end? The perfect story is there and it involves Mariah May being the woman to take the belt off her waist.

When 25-year-old Mariah May was paired with Storm the immediate response was that was the perfect position to put her in. Storm’s gimmick of a vaudeville actress needed a second that could play off the looniness. May has fit into the role exceptionally and continues to grow as an attraction within this women’s division. And while she’s playing that part well, the next phase of her story should be becoming a challenger and eventually taking the crown.

Imagine Storm’s reaction to the idea that May has built herself up as a challenger to her championship. Go even further and play up the angle that Storm believes May will simply lay down for her a la the finger point of doom. Turning the tides on Storm will push her down a path of craziness that hasn’t been seen yet. And that’s exactly what started her development into this excellent character.

This would be a great angle to run heading into Double or Nothing. Storm needs a big challenger at what is considered one of AEW’s tent pole shows. The fans are already firmly behind Mariah May, and this would be the right moment to crown her as a babyface character.

Mariah May is another addition to AEW’s strong roster of performers under the age of 30. She’s an excellent in-ring performer and has done well alongside Toni Storm’s gimmick. The next chapter in her arc should see her overtake Storm and snatch that championship from around her waist.
