The professional wrestling business is booming, and there’s more evidence to the point. One night after WWE NXT’s successful debut on CW, All Elite Wrestling announced a major new television deal with WBD that includes multiple aspects to push the promotion to new heights. This is an important moment in the industry as it not only lifts AEW higher but has positive ramifications throughout the business.

The exact details are still sparse, with reports starting at $150 million per year and going as high as $185 million. There are additional developments for the promotion including PPV’s streaming on MAX and a potential partnership with FOX on the horizon. These are important steps to fortify the company for the future and finally silence one of the dumbest online grifts in wrestling “media.”

Competition is what is best for any business. As AEW celebrates five years, think about where professional wrestling was six years ago, and even where it was when AEW was getting its start. WWE is still the largest promotion in the industry, but back then the organization held a firm grip as a monopoly of sorts. Being in that position allowed Vince McMahon and colleagues to put on some of the worst content around, and only see revenue continue to increase. Even with companies like TNA and New Japan existing, nothing really impacted WWE’s business.

Until AEW came into the picture. All Elite Wrestling not only gave fans an alternative, but it gave both in-ring performers a new place to go and a new place to employ the hundreds that work behind the scenes. Imagine a world where Nintendo thrives as the only video game company, or there’s only one studio creating movies. That’s the direction that professional wrestling was headed before AEW came around. This new deal allows the company to continue to grow and continue to be an alternative where it matters the most.

Professional wrestling is enjoying a boost on all fronts. Fans should celebrate and continue to support the best way they can. The saying is “a rising tide lifts all boats,” and that is especially true in an industry that has been impacted for so long by one person’s ill repute. Celebrate this moment for AEW as it will have a positive impact for everyone.
