Private Party must win the tag titles at AEW WrestleDream
All Elite Wrestling is set to present AEW WrestleDream in a few short days. There are several big matches on the card, and potentially more to come. One to note is the tag team championship match between The Young Bucks and Private Party. Looking at the status of the AEW tag team division, it’s time to put the tag titles on Private Party and give them the push fans have long wanted to see.
When AEW was created, this promotion was seen as an opportunity where new talent would rise to the top. In many ways, which has come true as the company has done a good job building talent not only for today, but for the future. However, there’s one duo in Isiah Kassidy and Marq Quen who consistently missed those chances to be placed at the top of the tag division.
Private Party are two uber-talented and young performers on the AEW roster. This was recognized quickly and it looked like the promotion was going to push them to a position of prominence early. They picked up a win over The Young Bucks, which was touted as one of the biggest “upsets” in recent pro wrestling history. Yet, nothing really came from it. While Quen’s injury that kept him out most of 2023 is one reason their momentum stalled, it doesn’t speak to the length of time they’ve been under the AEW banner and not truly seen the opportunity to stand in the tag team spotlight.
That all should change at WrestleDream. Private Party must defeat The Young Bucks. Not only for their rise to continue, but because the tag team division needs it. The Bucks are one of the best tag teams in wrestling history. There’s no disputing that. But there’s also no disputing their current run as tag team champions has been lacking. It seems like the titles are more of a background prop to the bigger angle that is The Elite, but even that angle is stale at best. Fans don’t want to see The Bucks in the same battles against FTR and The Acclaimed, there’s so much more within this tag team division. Building that around Private Party is the right move to get momentum rolling once again.
Think about some of the matches that Private Party can give fans. Pair them against the likes of Top Flight, The Outrunners, GYV, House of Black and so many others. Not only are they great in the ring, but Quen and Kassidy have also grown into their characters well, establishing themselves are acts that are believable both comedically and seriously when necessary.
It’s time for AEW to put Private Party in the position to either sink or swim at the top of the tag team division. That means that they must get the win over The Young Bucks at WrestleDream and take home that tag team title.
