The Royal Rumble is one of the most prestigious events in professional wrestling.  Being a participant can be an honor for some wrestlers.  Winning the Royal Rumble is a huge accomplishment.

However, not everyone can win the Royal Rumble.  Many have come close to winning while some never got close to being at the end of the match.  In this article, I’m going to be looking at five wrestlers who got close but never won the Royal Rumble.

Winning the Royal Rumble is very hard to do, and the list of winners is very small.  Some suffer heartbreaking defeats and others just never recover from winning this one match.  Could these five have won a Royal Rumble?  Absolutely, but they could never get over the final hurdle.

Kevin Nash

Kevin Nash is one of the most polarizing big men in the history of wrestling.  A former college basketball player, Nash was wrestling in different promotions before coming to the WWF in 1993 acting as the bodyguard for Shawn Michaels.

At the 1994 Royal Rumble, Kevin Nash (Diesel) entered his first Royal Rumble and made an immediate impact.  In less than twenty minutes, Nash eliminated seven wrestlers from the Royal Rumble before being eliminated.  When he left, he was given a standing ovation for his brief but amazing performance.

The next time Nash would be in the Royal Rumble was in 1996 and he was one of the favorites to win.  His performance was as good as two years prior when he eliminated five wrestlers, before being the last man eliminated by Shawn Michaels.

While Nash competed in a couple more Royal Rumbles he never got as close as he did in 1996.  Big Daddy Cool was put on ice and never got the chance to win the Royal Rumble.
