The latest episode of WWE Raw saw Chad Gable call on the help of The Creed Brothers to attack Bo Dallas. Did it play out in his favor? The answer to that question is still to come. But once this is for sure, WWE missed a chance to have a huge moment between Gable and Otis. The fans were ready and that moment didn’t come, missing the boat on building some strong momentum behind the character.

For weeks, Otis stood in the way of Gable releasing his fury on Akira Tozawa and Maxxine Dupri. For weeks, fans cheered every time it looked like Otis was going to smash Gable. But that moment never came. Instead, all they got was Otis pushing Gable to the mat one week and telling Gable that the family is basically done. Now, Gable has moved on and Otis is an afterthought.

It has been a month since Otis has had a match in any form. All that momentum was sucked away. Think about the story that Gable and Otis could have told for a few weeks, leading to a big match on an episode of WWE Raw. Their real-life friendship should have been used as the foundation for that story. Gable helped teach Otis how to read, imagine him using that to bury Otis in front of a crowd to build heat for the feud. There’s so much opportunity between those two men to tell an interesting story outside the title picture which is something that WWE desperately needs.

Would Gable go over? Of course, but the purpose of that moment would be to build off the budding interest that was there with Otis. This happened once in the past. Otis was over within the storyline that featured Mandy Rose, but back he was seen as a sideshow character and nothing more. Even his Money in the Bank briefcase victory was seen as a joke.

Giving the fans a big build and payoff between Otis and Gable wouldn’t have to mean that the former is heading for a serious, long-term push. But it would give the fans reason to continue to care about him and his story. Keeping Dupri and Tozawa alongside him would also raise their stock at the same time.

WWE is about telling stories through wrestling. Well, the biggest promotion in the world missed a clear opportunity to tell a fantastic story between Chad Gable and Otis. Is it something they can perhaps go back to? Maybe, but the momentum that was present just weeks ago is all but gone, and the guarantee that the fans will react in the same way is as well.
