There’s a growing rumor about Vince McMahon making an attempt to start another wrestling promotion. It’s an idea that should make everyone who loves the industry, and even those who don’t, shake their head in disgust. A little more than a year has passed since the allegations against Vince McMahon were revealed, and there’s one thing that many people of sound mind will agree upon. Professional wrestling or sports entertainment does not need Vince McMahon in any way.
83 Weeks is a popular wrestling podcast hosted by the wrestling legend, Eric Bishoff. On a recent episode, he and Conrad Thompson were talking about the rumored McMahon project.
“There’s been lots of speculation, lots of rumor and innuendo about Vince McMahon starting a company,” Thompson said during the show. “There’s been lots of whispers, I don’t know what’s real and what’s not, but allegedly, Vince McMahon’s people have made contact with people who have experienced shooting wrestling. I don’t know if this is real or not, but the rumor mill, the whispers, say perhaps Fox is holding a spot for Vince McMahon.”
Media outlets followed up on the matter with Fightful reporting that Fox “denied any interest or involvement.” Andrew Marchand of The Athletic also released a comment.
“There is a report that Vince McMahon might start a wrestling company with Fox as a partner,” Marchand posted on social media. “If McMahon is planning that or not, I don’t know, but the Fox part is not true, according to a network spokesperson.”

Professional Wrestling and Sports Entertainment do not need Vince McMahon
Let’s be honest. Vince McMahon nearly ruined professional wrestling and sports entertainment alike. Does he have some important contributions that led the industry to become what it is today? Yes. But many of those contributions are nearly 25+ years old at this time. It’s hard for anyone to talk about any clear contributions by McMahon that are worth considering “good” today.
And that’s just the business aspect of the conversation. McMahon is accused of some heinous actions. It takes reading the legal documents in the Janel Grant lawsuit to shine a light on the idea that McMahon is alleged to have done things worse than even imaginable. As the legal proceedings work their way to completion, the industry should not welcome him back in any fashion.
Pro wrestling has long struggled to push out its bad actors. There are so many stories of individuals being pushed out of one promotion or position, just to hear about them getting yet another shot in another way. Creating the opportunity for McMahon to start another promotion while facing these allegations would be the worst example of this problem. It is one that has the potential to turn away a lot of fans across the board.
The rumors of Vince McMahon shopping and the idea of a new wrestling promotion are just that, rumors. Still, the idea of it being discussed already makes it beyond problematic. McMahon is facing a slew of allegations and legal proceedings that should immediately disqualify him from being involved in the business. Professional wrestling and sports entertainment do not need McMahon in any fashion.
