Another free agent is on the market, but expectations are that he will not be available for long. Fightful Select reported that Rey Fenix is no longer with All Elite Wrestling.
“It was expected that Fenix could end up having months added to his AEW deal due to injury time, but Fenix is now gone from the company, and eligible to sign anywhere. We’re told that he’s expected to sign with WWE imminently, and Fanatics have already began preparing merchandise for him, with creative coming up with ideas.”
This is big news coming on the heels of other members of the AEW roster being released in recent weeks. Ricky Starks, now Ricky Saints, Miro and Malakai Black were all removed from the AEW roster webpages before media outlets reported on their releases days later. Saints is now in WWE NXT, fans are pointing out about hints toward Black’s WWE return, and no word on Miro’s next moves as of this time.
Fenix and Penta were involved in controversy surrounding their AEW contracts in 2024. Outlets reported the brothers were negotiating with WWE while under AEW contract, and Fenix made some allegations about “inhumane treatment.” According to Fightful, AEW was considering letting him out of his deal, but these comments did not help the matter.
Rey Fenix and Penta would be huge additions to the WWE tag team roster
Penta’s arrival in WWE has surprised a lot of people. It’s not the idea of him being in WWE, but how he’s been presented so far. Since debuting with the company on January 13, he’s undefeated, picking up several wins along the way. He was also the “Ironman” for the 2025 Royal Rumble entering at number two and lasting 42 minutes.
Fans noticed a shift to Penta’s story as both Ludwig Kaiser and Pete Dunne are now targeting the Mexican performer. If this turns into a situation where it is 2-on-1, then that would be the perfect moment for Fenix to make an appearance to save his real-life brother.
But even beyond that potential feud, bringing in Penta and Rey Fenix as additions to the tag team division would be a massive addition. Think about some of the matchups that could happen. The duo formerly known as The Lucha Bros taking on the likes of DIY, the Motor City Machine Guns, The LWO, Pretty Deadly, and the best team in the business today, Fraxiom. There’s a lot of opportunity there and those who love tag team wrestling would push to see it all.
AEW has released another important member of its roster, and Rey Fenix is now on the market. If he does end up in WWE with his brother, Penta there’s a lot that can happen in tag team wrestling.
