WWE SmackDown is getting a major name as Rey Fenix is set to debut during the upcoming episode on April 4. This is an interesting get on several levels and should be an important addition to what is already a stacked roster.
Those in the know are well aware of who Rey Fenix is and his career accolades. For nearly 20 years, Fenix has been one of the best luchadores in the business, whether that’s performing as a solo star or as a tag team with her brother Penta.
Throughout his career, he’s collected more than 20 different title reigns. This includes titles in All Elite Wrestling, Lucha Underground, Major League Wrestling, and Triple A. All those accolades are more than enough reason for fans to be excited about his arrival.
Yet, there’s still concern for Rey Fenix as a singles performer in WWE
Still, there’s enough recent evidence to cause concern about how Fenix will be booked in WWE. One could point to Penta, who has gone on an excellent run since arriving in the company. According to reports, he’s to be booked in a big multi-man match for the WWE Intercontinental Championship at WrestleMania.
Then, there’s those that point to Triple H’s penchant for booking Latino wrestlers together. For example, it looks like Andrade and Santos Escobar are heading for a feud as the former is trying to get Los Garzas. SmackDown has a stacked and diverse roster, so it would be important for WWE to book Fenix in a similar fashion as they are doing Penta. Give him all the momentum in the world.
Then there’s the major moment to come when Penta and Fenix are in the same ring. Fans initially questioned why they are on separate shows, but that lends itself directly to the huge moment of them standing face-to-face, either in a match or joining together to create a tag team. Together they’ve held 12 tag team titles. But they also have a 4-4 record against each other as singles performers. Perhaps it’s time to see them battle once again on the biggest stage in wrestling.
Professional wrestling is booming across the board. Free agents have more power to move around, which is one of the big benefits of so much success. Rey Fenix is one of the newest performers getting that opportunity and his time in WWE will be interesting to watch as it kicks off on April 4.
