While many in North America were sleeping, a major title changed hands. Saree defeated Syuri to capture the IWGP Women’s Championship, becoming the fifth woman to hold that title. Since leaving WWE, Sareee has been on one of the best tears in professional wrestling. So much so that many believe she’s perhaps the best women’s wrestler in the world today, and that isn’t far from the truth.

The IWGP Women’s Championship is a title that isn’t talked about often, but one that has built a strong level of prestige in just three years. Look at the women who’ve held it so far, and the list is a short gathering of some of the best performers in wrestling. KAIRI held the title first, dropping it to Mercedes Mone. She lost the belt to Mayu Iwatani, who would hold the belt for 735 days before losing it to Syuri. Her reign has come to an end, and now it is the time of Sareee.

Sareee continues to build her legacy as one of the top names in women’s wrestling

Sareee is just 29 years old, and she’s a name that fans should begin to recognize as a future pillar of women’s wrestling. She was a major prospect before signing with WWE and has only built upon that status since leaving.

According to Cagematch, her current match rating sits as a 9.19, which is exceptional compared to her peers. This includes some bangers like Sareee versus Syuri from back in March, her April 2024 match against Mayu Iwatani, and her match against VENY from January are all examples of contests that are worth going back to watch.

It’s wild to think that WWE had Sareee signed and used her in the fashion the company did as a part of NXT. This speaks to several issues when it comes to WWE’s booking practices and ideals when looking at particular talent: especially women from other countries. Sareee took that experience and built upon it, leading to one of the biggest runs outside of the company, even though it seemingly still flies under the radar.

Sareee reached a massive career milestone with her win over Syuri. She’s someone fans should go out of their way to see, as she continues to deliver as one of the best performers in the business.
