WWE NXT consistently gets praise for the booking of its women’s division. NXT Roadblock featured the crowning of the person set to carry that women’s division forward as Stephanie Vaquer defeated Giulia to take the NXT Women’s Champion and officially become the Champ-Champ, holding both that title and the NXT Women’s North American Championship.
This match was billed as the “biggest women’s match in NXT history,” and WWE promoted it to that level. Since they both arrived in the brand, Giulia and Vaquer have been presented as big-time names, on the level of any women within WWE. Giulia was initially slotted in the main event picture, but Vaquer soon followed her to the same point.
If anyone is going to carry the mantle of NXT Women’s Champion after Giulia, Vaquer is the right name to do so. In winning this match, she made history in becoming the first woman since Becky Lynch in 2019 to become a double champion in the company. It will be interesting to see how WWE books her run from this point forward, as there are several names in the NXT Women’s Division poised to challenge her for both belts.
What’s next for Giulia?
According to Mike Johnson of PWInsider, Giulia is “banged up” and has been dealing with multiple injures which have limited her abilities in the ring. While the injuries are not classified as “major” they are enough that the company used this match to get her off television to recover. There’s no timetable for how long she will be out but moving both titles over to Vaquer seems like the right move while Giulia gets the time off that she needs.
Hopefully, this will lead to a big match at NXT Stand & Deliver during WrestleMania 41 Weekend. That is typically a big night for NXT, and headlining that showcase with Vaquer versus Giulia II would immediately get fans invested in the PLE.
