Tay Melo would be an interesting choice to win the Women's Casino Gauntlet Battle Royale

The AEW Women’s Division will get a major match on the January 15 edition of AEW Dynamite. The Women’s Casino Gauntlet Battle Royale is set to make its debut. A new number one contender to Mariah May’s AEW Women’s World Championship will be identified. Looking at the roster and the potential of who is to return, this would be the perfect spot to give Tay Melo a huge win.

All Elite Wrestling has a stacked roster, filled with some of the best women’s wrestlers in the world. Fans are right to continue to push Tony Khan to give this group ample time on AEW’s shows. While that hasn’t happened, that hasn’t stopped the company from putting together perhaps the best women’s division in wrestling.

With a new year ahead of us, it’s time to refresh the top of the division, and this match is the perfect opportunity to do so. It is bound to have some surprises, and Melo’s return to AEW should be one of them.

Melo’s last match in AEW was back in January of 2023. She stepped away from wrestling later that year for maternity leave, welcoming her first child into the world. Leading up to that departure, Melo was recognized as one of the most improved wrestlers on AEW’s roster. She was showing a lot of the promise that was first identified when she was a part of the WWE NXT roster. Things were coming together for her, even though Melo never obtained any gold while in All Elite Wrestling.

Seeing her coming back as a part of the gauntlet and winning it would add a fresh face at the top of the division. Mariah May is heading for the next chapter in her story with Toni Storm, but there’s a need to boost the number of women who can be seen as threats to the champions. Both May and Mercedes Mone are being built as dominant champions, which makes sense. Melo would be a fan favorite to add to the list of top names with a win on January 15.

Melo recently returned to action at Stardom New Year Dream on January 3, joining Mina Shirakawa against ATHENA and Thekla. While that was a losing effort, many said that Melo looked good in her return and expressed excitement to see her back in AEW.

AEW needs to freshen up the top of the women’s division. The Women’s Casino Gauntlet match will play a great role in facilitating that need. Tay Melo’s return and victory would be a big moment to help build momentum early in 2025.
