The 2025 WWE Women's Royal Rumble is wide open for the taking
The year is drawing to a close. WWE has run its course of PLEs in 2024, putting together several successes along the way. All eyes are on the start of 2025, which includes the Royal Rumble as the first main roster PLE of the year. The women and men will take part in one of the most important matches of the year, setting the stage for WrestleMania. Looking at the women’s division, there’s no telling who will take home the victory in the battle royale, leaving things wide open.
The women’s divisions on both Monday Night Raw and SmackDown are in an odd place. The title picture features several popular performers orbiting the championships. Liv Morgan is trying to beat back Rhea Ripley while Nia Jax has the looming threat of Tiffany Stratton and the Money in the Bank Briefcase. While complaints around their storytelling continue to pop up, these are four performers that are popular with the fans.
The challenge is that the rest of the division is lacking. WWE has introduced midcard championships for both brands, which will hopefully elevate the women carrying them. But outside of that, no one seems interesting enough nor do they have the momentum to push to the top. There are rumors that both Charlotte Flair and Becky Lynch are slotted to return in early January, setting up two massive names for the match. But both ladies have already picked up victories and made their claim to WrestleMania moments. This is an opportunity to make someone else a main event name. Will WWE take the risk?
If Lynch and Flair are not the victors, there are several other names that would be interesting. For example, if Jade Cargill is capable of competing and wins, there’s a chance that could be the catalyst to lead to the split between her and Bianca Belair. Or what about Shayna Baszler? There’s been a long push to see her booked as the force in the women’s division that everyone knows she can be. She’s found a lot of tag team success on the main roster, but it’s time to put her in the main event as a singles star. With Sonya Deville and Zoey Stark by her side, WWE could have a strong stable to anchor the main event of the women’s division. Or what about other fan favorites like Naomi, Michin, or Piper Niven? There are so many talented and beloved women on this roster, fans would get excited to see many of them vaulted into an important spot heading into WrestleMania.
Or what about someone like Jordynne Grace? She made a surprise appearance in the past and with her TNA Wrestling contract reportedly coming to an end in early 2025, fans would be shocked to see this new star get the rocket strapped to her back.
The road to WrestleMania begins with the Royal Rumble. The women’s division doesn’t have a clear favorite heading into the match. If WWE does not go with an established name like Charlotte Flair or Becky Lynch, there are several names that would not only benefit from the win but get fans invested heading into the biggest show of the year.
