The Hardys Are Headed To WWE NXT: Is The Black and Gold Brand Prepared To Get Extreme?

The Hardys are future WWE Hall of Famers who have worked on both the RAW and SmackDown brands together, but they have never teamed up on NXT. That all changes very soon...

Tuesday night on WWE NXT, No Quarter Catch Crew interrupted an interview with the NXT Tag Team Champions Axiom & Nathan Frazer. Like many, Fraxiom thought they were there to challenge them for the NXT Tag Team Championships. However, the Catch Crew made it clear that they are challenging for gold...just not the gold Fraxiom is holding.

This led to the Crew challenging who they believe might be the best tag team of all time. Tavion Heights broke the 4th wall a bit, looking right at the camera to make it clear that they were calling out the current TNA World Tag Team Champions, Matt & Jeff Hardy.

Heights said both he and Myles Borne are challenging Team Extreme to a match next week, February 25th, on NXT. The Hardys were not slow to respond, as they jumped on Matt Hardy's X Account, agreeing to the challenge soon after the Crew issued it. WWE then posted their response on the company's YouTube Channel.

It is uncertain if this is a one-time appearance for the Hardys, as the duo seemed to suggest that more could come. In fact, Matt & Jeff even told Axiom and Nathan Fraser to get a front-row seat at ringside so they can show them how it's done.

That made many assume we could see a face-off between the TNA & NXT Tag Team Champions relatively soon. With two upcoming NXT PLEs, it would be cool to see the two teams face off at one of them.

The Hardys have won every major tag team title in the WWE (or a version of a title), except for the NXT Tag Titles. That said, it would make sense for them to try and complete that collection. It would be similar to a move the New Day made not that long ago.

It is interesting to see that WWE has started to once again refer to them as "The Hardy Boyz." They were known as The Hardys in WWE for many years before this when they were operating as a tag team. However, this only started once Jeff Hardy left for TNA the first time and then returned.

Ever since, we've known them as "The Hardys" collectively. Yet they originally made their impact in the WWE with "The Hardy Boyz" team name. This has led many to believe that WWE is taking us on a slight nostalgia trip that would result in Matt and Jeff Hardy going into the 2025 WWE Hall of Fame.

While the current TNA/WWE deal involves talent sharing between TNA & NXT, most think TNA would likely allow the Hardys to take part in the Hall of Fame, too.

Matt and Jeff Hardy are certainly not done as professional wrestlers, so some might assume the Hall of Fame is premature.

However, Rey Mysterio went into the 2023 WWE Hall of Fame and is still working in the WWE actively as an in-ring talent. If Mysterio can do this, it makes sense to assume the Hardys could too.

Time will tell, but for now, at least we get to see The Hardys back on WWE programming together for the first time in years!
