In both AEW and WWE, tag team wrestling has suffered as of late. While there have been some standout matches, the totality of the divisions has felt like an afterthought. However, that hasn’t stopped teams from stepping up to steal show after show. Expect the same for SummerSlam 2025, where the newly announced six-pack TLC match will be the top match in the two-night showcase.
SummerSlam 2025 is coming in hot on August 2 and 3 from MetLife Stadium in East Rutherford, New Jersey. This is the first time the show is moving to a two-night format. While revenue extraction is clearly the goal for that shift, there’s still enough on this card to be excited to watch. On Friday, July 25 this big six-team tag match was announced, and that will put the proverbial butts in seats.
The Wyatt Sicks will defend their WWE Tag Team Championship against The Street Profits, Motor City Machine Guns, Fraxiom, DIY, and Andrade and Rey Fenix. Look at that slate. It is rare that WWE puts together a showcase match that brings out the best in tag team wrestling, this is one of them.
Any match that features the combination of MCMG, Fraxiom, and DIY is an immediate must-see contest. These are three teams that could each stake a claim to being the best team in their respective eras. Motor City Machine Guns racked up accolade after accolade around the world before recently making the move to WWE. DIY had a killer run in NXT that put them, and FTR on the map. Then there’s Fraxiom, an easy candidate for the top team in North American wrestling today. That alone should get fans of tag team wrestling hyped.
Andrade and Fenix are two stellar singles performers. Putting them together as a team keeps them active in a stacked roster, but do not expect them to capture the tag team titles at any point. The Street Profits are coming off a title run, and many are hoping for an eventual split that will push Montez Ford as a singles star.
This is going to be an excellent showcase of tag team wrestling with a sprinkle of car crash into the mix. There’s a lot that could happen in this match, impacting not only the future of the tag division, but perhaps setting the stage for a split within at least one of these teams.
It doesn’t matter which night it is on, be prepared for the six-pack tables, ladder, and chairs match to steal the show. This is what fans have wanted to see from tag team wrestling in WWE, and these 12 men will go out of their way to deliver.
