Toni Storm continues to give fans great character work

If one thing has remained true in professional wrestling the last few years, it is that Toni Storm is going to do some interesting character work. The former AEW Women’s World Champion has returned to All Elite Wrestling, but she’s done so with a wrinkle. She’s not the “Timeless” one. Instead, she’s almost acting like she’s caught in a time loop and her character arc has fans hooked to see what is coming next.

Storm’s character work has been amazing. She was trapped in the AEW Originals versus The Outcasts angle for far too long, and when she dropped the title to Hikaru Shida on August 2. The downward spiral that followed gave birth to the “Timeless” gimmick.

From the very start, Storm’s character work stood out among her peers – making her one of the featured aspects of AEW television each week. There was a stretch of time when the women’s division started to ride some momentum, and a lot of that can be attributed to the interest that was in Storm’s run as the champion. There was a brief moment in which interest waned because fans were looking forward to the eventual split between her and Mariah May. Then it came and all hell broke loose.

Now, Storm’s back and she’s acting like the character that was signed back in 2022. Grunge gimmick and all. In her mind, she’s a new signee, ready to break into AEW and make an impact. But where is this going? Is Storm going to have a “remember who you are” moment after World’s End and rekindle her rage toward Mariah May? Or is she going to debut a totally new gimmick to harken back to a legend like Mick Foley? There’s no telling which direction this angle is going to go, but if Storm’s proven nothing else with this run, it’s that she has an inventive mind for professional wrestling and knows how to keep the fans hooked.

Toni Storm is one of the best professional wrestlers in the world. She proves that fact every time she steps into the ring, but also with her character work that draws fans into all that she’s doing. The next chapter of her angle versus Mariah May has kicked off and it is getting off to a great start.
