WrestleMania 41 is a week removed and WWE now has its focus on what’s to come. The April 21 episode of Monday Night Raw gave fans a glimpse at what’s to come with the depth of the women’s division. Iyo Sky took on Stephanie Vaquer and before the end of the match, Rhea Ripley, Roxanne Perez, and Giulia were all involved. In fact, the roster is so stacked that now is the time to give new faces an opportunity to shine in the spotlight.
WWE has two interesting women carrying the top women’s titles on the main roster. Tiffany Stratton and Iyo Sky are two popular performers. One is the young talent whose fans are ready to see her establish herself as the name of the future. The other is an established star who seems to finally be on the receiving end of her time in the spotlight. Sky and Stratton are the perfect names to use to give other women some time to establish their footholds as top stars as well.
On the April 25 episode of SmackDown, Stratton was attacked by Nia Jax after a strong match against Jade Cargill. The collective groan everyone heard is the idea that WWE is going back to Jax as Stratton’s main foil. While Jax has done her best work since returning to WWE, the SmackDown roster is packed with women who could be top contenders if built correctly.
Think about a world where Piper Niven goes on a monster run to become a threat to the title. Or Naomi, who is and will always be a beloved figure in wrestling, getting a shot at the championship with this new character. WWE saw the reaction of Zelina Vega winning her first singles title. It is time to give some new faces opportunities as top contenders and champions.
Kairi Sane vs Iyo Sky would be huge for the women's division
The same could be said for Monday Night Raw. Triple H does not need to go back to Rhea Ripley as the biggest threat to Iyo Sky’s WWE Women’s World Championship. There are other stories worth telling. For example, Zoey Stark and Sky were NXT Women’s Tag Team Champions, perhaps starting there while building Stark up as a singles threat to create an angle where she wants a crack at the belt.
There’s another name that would be even more interesting. Kairi Sane and Iyo Sky have more than ten years’ worth of history. Their career first came intertwined back in 2015 and since then they’ve stood on both sides of the ring, together and as opponents. Sane is reported to be cleared for action and set for a return. Imagine the type of story and matches these two women could give the fans if they had the opportunity to do so. All WWE has to do is book it.
WWE has a stacked women’s division across all three weekly shows. It is time for the company to stop leaning on the same names at the top of the division and use the two champions to build more believable depth with fresh contenders.
