WWE Hall of Famer and wrestling icon, Hulk Hogan has died as reported by TMZ. The news broke on Thursday, July 24.

According to the TMZ report, medics were sent to Hogan's home in Clearwater, Florida Thursday morning for what was said to be a "cardiac arrest." The report goes on to state that he was placed on a stretcher and moved into an ambulance.

This news comes weeks after reports that Hogan was not in the best medical condition as rumors swirled online about his health status. Those rumors were refuted with news that he was in the hospital for a procedure to deal with a neck issue.

Hulk Hogan's legacy is long and controversial

Hulk Hogan was one of the most important and also controversial figures in professional wrestling and sports entertainment. The multiple time champion rose to fame in the WWF, becoming one of the faces of the industry while standing across from the likes of Andre the Giant and King Kong Bundy. He also shifted the business when he made the jump to WCW, becoming the front man to the NWO. His presence, along with Kevin Nash and Scott Hall kicked off The Monday Night Wars that almost tipped the scale of power in the wrestling business away from Vince McMahon.

However, when talking about Hulk Hogan one must also talk about his troubled legacy when his time in the ring was long over. He's since been denouced by many throughout professional wrestling after accusations of racist behavior became more public. In recent years, Hogan was one of the many celebrities that embraced the MAGA movement, becoming a close ally to another WWE Hall of Famer, Donald Trump. Hogan's position in right-wing movements also played a part in the dismantling of Gawker.

Hulk Hogan was 71 years old and is survived by his two children, Nick and Brooke Hogan. For more news and opinion on Hogan and his legacy, stick with Daily DDT.
