WrestleMania season is upon us. WWE is pushing toward the biggest annual show in the industry, with eyes on what matches will happen each night. With some of the top names in the business on the roster, WWE has the ability to put on the biggest matches around. But sometimes, the company misses out on some big-name contests for various reasons. One such match that has yet to happen is Logan Paul versus Bad Bunny. Is this an odd pairing? Not really when you think further about how things work.
Throughout the years, WWE has pulled celebrities into the ring. Individuals like Mike Tyson, Stephen Amell, Snooki, and others took part in matches that seemed impossible. As owners of the promotion, Endeavor seems dead set on highlighting celebrities that are in the crowd each week in an attempt to make the product “mainstream” again. But those who step into the ring are at a different level, and this is where Logan Paul and Bad Bunny come into play.
Logan Paul and Bad Bunny are a new phase of “celebrity wrestlers”
Logan Paul and Bad Bunny are much different than the celebrities who wrestled years ago. They aren’t standing on the apron to throw a worked punch or tag in to get the victory. They are out there taking bumps and putting on great matches as if they’ve been doing this for their full career.
The fans are appreciating them for it. Look back to Bad Bunny’s entrance at WWE Backlash in Puerto Rico which felt like a massive concert at a wrestling show. Even with his disturbing antics as an online personality, Paul receives loud praise for his work since transitioning to a full-time wrestler. These two men get in the ring and they get the job done. When adding their social status to the mix, it makes complete sense to pair them together.
Logan Paul and Bad Bunny have a story to tell
It would be easy for WWE to link Paul and Bunny for an in-ring angle. Both men have recently declared that they are the best celebrity wrestler to ever step in the ring. Those who are familiar with pro wrestling know what happens when someone says they are the best. There’s someone around the corner ready to argue the counterpoint.
While it would be easy to lean on those words to set the stage for Bad Bunny versus Logan Paul, there are also some interesting real-world issues between the two men. In 2022, Logan Paul took to YouTube to call Bad Bunny both “hypocritical” and “taking advantage” of tax laws after the latter called out Paul in a documentary about the gentrification and displacement that is happening in Puerto Rico.
“Bad Bunny is a Puerto Rican, living in Puerto Rico, who is privately taking advantage of the same tax program that he is publicly condemning,” Paul said. “So, I see this music video that has stuck me in the middle of it – surrounded by context that makes me look like a vulture in Puerto Rico. And again, while I love Bad Bunny, I cannot personally support the hypocritical nature of his exploitation.”
Those were loud and wrong words on many levels. For example, Bunny is a native Puerto Rican which makes him ineligible for the tax breaks that Paul gets to enjoy – even with his financial status. Bad Bunny also created the Good Bunny Foundation which gives back to Puerto Rico in several ways, flying in the face of the term “exploitation.”
WWE has used real-life issues in the past to fuel angles that play out on television. This recently occurred with Drew McIntyre and LA Knight who had to work things out when issues came up after the Royal Rumble. If Logan Paul and Bad Bunny are willing to work together, this could be a massive angle that would be a major part of any WWE PLE.
