Gunther (c) vs. Finn Balor [World Title]

It is quite peculiar that Finn Balor, who is already one half of the World Tag Team Champions, is rewarded with a World Title Shot after maliciously screwing Damian Priest in his World Title Match at Survivor Series. Although this is a choreographed pro wrestling show, rewarding anyone for such malignant behavior is baffling, and putting the idea of "Balor 2 Belts" into the universe is also pure monopolization in a land of opportunity. Furthermore, the fact that Balor did not even win a #1 contender's match to earn this title shot makes this booking decision even more risible in retrospect.

Although Finn is a former world champ and thereby a credible threat for Gunther by default, he neither has a storyline basis to win the title here nor has the momentum to warrant his title opportunity. This title match is clearly just a means to add more heat to the feud between Balor and Priest whilst continuing the dominance of Gunther's title reign. This is WWE's awkward way of killing two birds with one stone, as they have blatantly telegraphed Damian Priest screwing Balor in this title match as retaliation for what Balor did at Survivor Series. However, there is a curveball to consider.

Since legends are rumored to return for this throwback nostalgic show, it would not be too far fetched to see Goldberg confront Gunther after this title match. It is ironic that Goldberg has a stronger claim for the championship than Balor, especially after his tense interaction with Gunther at Bad Blood. At that event, Gunther told Goldberg that he lied about Goldberg being his favorite wrestler to Bret Hart and that Goldberg is a one-trick pony. Since this was teased, this would be a solid title match to book at the Rumble, like WWE did with McIntyre and Goldberg four years ago.

Prediction: Gunther

Bayley/Chelsea Green vs. Michin/Tiffany Stratton [U.S. Championship]

The winner of Bayley and Chelsea Green in the semifinals of this tournament will battle the winner of Michin and Ms. MITB Tiffany Stratton in the semifinals of this tournament at this event. While Bayley is the most established talent here and would bring a ton of credibility and prestige to this title, she does not need to win this title, especially after already winning the world title at Mania this year. Tiffany Stratton does not need to win this title either since she already has the MITB Briefcase, which already guarantees her a title shot anytime anyplace. That would just be a double whammy.

This championship should go to an actual mid carder like Chelsea Green or Michin, who need it more than anyone else in this tournament. Since Green is more popular than Michin right now, WWE should strike while the iron is hot with her. Also, since this event is in Long Island, NY, the hometown of her husband, Matt Cardona, he will likely be there to witness this moment. Green's work has been commendable to date and should be rewarded with a championship. Booking her as merely a hand to make the roster look better is not advisable in the long run, as this could be an entertaining title reign.

Prediction: Chelsea Green
