The Ascension

At one glorious point in the not-so-distant past, WWE’s tag team division was overrun with magnificent units that earned the eternal respect of wrestling fans and purists.

With teams including The Basham Brothers, World’s Greatest Tag Team, Brian Kendrick and Paul London, andLos Guerreros, WWE had to bring on two sets of tag team titles to accommodate the available talent.

In an attempt to return to that prominence, WWE needs to give The Ascension their shot at the main roster.

Beyond  The Wyatt Family, The Usos and The Rhodes… err, “Dust” Brothers, the future of the tag team division is bleak. Los Matadores have appeal, but they’re more of a gimmick tag team than one that will last for years to come.

The pairing of Justin Gabriel and Tyson Kidd appears more on NXT than on the main shows.

The Ascension can be a pair of powerful heels to build up over time and ultimately pit against another pair of powerful heels: Erick Rowan and Luke Harper of The Wyatt Family.

What Konnor and Viktor bring to the table is a combination of power and agility that’s easy to get over. It’s unclear what their prospects are as future faces, but this is a heel tag team that’s physically dominant and entertaining.

As long as they receive a lengthy and acceptable feud, The Ascension can hit the ground running at the next level.
