WWE Hall of Fame: Tag Teams Who Deserve Induction

What other teams should enter the hallowed halls of the WWE Hall of Fame?

This year The Bushwhackers will enter the WWE Hall of Fame at the induction ceremony the night before WrestleMania 31. The Bushwhackers were a fun mid-card team throughout their time in WWE, but are being inducted more for their contributions throughout other promotions, not just Vince McMahon’s company. There are even more teams that will find a place in the Hall of Fame in the next few years, and today we’ll look at the next three teams that should be inducted.

The British Bulldogs

Davey Boy Smith and The Dynamite Kid were two cousins from England who had tremendous chemistry together. The team would take their talents from England to Stampede Wrestling, the famed promotion run by Stu Hart in Calgary, Alberta, Canada. From there they would go on to the WWF and find success, capturing the WWF World Tag Team Championship at WrestleMania 2 from “The Dream Team” of Greg Valentine and Brutus Beefcake. The team was a successful act in the WWF but left in 1988 due to backstage altercations. Sadly, the Bulldogs would never be together in the WWF again, and soon after their relationship would fall apart. Suspected steroid abuse and drug use ruined both performers: Smith would be dead by 2002, and Dynamite Kid now has to use a wheelchair for movement.

In their prime however, there is no doubt the British Bulldogs are worthy of a spot in the Hall of Fame. The WWE Hall of Fame likes to recognize the work of someone outside of their promotion as well as their time in WWE. While in the WWE the Bulldogs were great performers, champions, and very exciting. PWI ranked them as the #5 team of the PWI years in 2003. The Bulldogs deserve to be enshrined in the Hall alongside other great teams.

The New Age Outlaws

Oh, you didn’t know?

When “Road Dogg” Jesse James and “Bad Ass” Billy Gunn got together to form the New Age Outlaws in 1997, the tag team game of the Attitude Era was changed. They were brash, they were loud, they cheated, and they were the most fun team in the division at that time. Once added to Degeneration X, the New Age Outlaws were one of the most popular acts of one of the best times of wrestling. Even if they did split up after only 2 years of their initial run, the act has reunited multiple times over the years, most recently do take on the Ascension at this year’s Royal Rumble.

The Outlaws are 6 time WWE Tag Champs, and have the record for longest length of time between reigns at 14 years. Their longevity, popularity, and impact as a part of one of the most important and influential groups in wrestling history should secure their spot in the Hall of Fame one day. They just have to retire first.

  • The Hart Foundation

As a Canadian, this one to me is personal. My personal love for Bret Hart knows no bounds. As a performer, he was amazing, and to me his tag-team with Jim “The Anvil” Neidhart was one of the greatest of all time. They were exciting in the ring and worked as great heels with manager Jimmy Hart. Their rivalry with the British Bulldogs was extremely entertaining, and the four men involved put on tremendous matches together. Their best rivalry however was with their own manager, as Jimmy Hart would turn on Bret and Jim and side with other teams to try and beat them, including Demolition, The Honky Tonk Man and Greg “The Hammer” Valentine. The Hart Foundation would be split up following WrestleMania 7.

While together, the Hart Foundation were WWF Tag Team Champions twice. They were one of the most consistent mid-card acts in the best company in the world at the time. Bret has already gone into the hall of fame, but Jim Neidhart also deserves a spot for his contribution to tag team wrestling, not only with Bret but with his late brother Owen as well.
If The Bushwhackers get a spot in the WWE Hall of Fame, there is definitely room for these three legendary teams in the future.
