How Long Should Seth Rollins Be WWE World Heavyweight Champion?

With the Architect of the Authority now standing atop the roster as WWE World Heavyweight Champion, how long should Seth Rollins plan on holding onto the coveted belt?

Following his stunning capture of the WWE World Heavyweight Championship in the WrestleMania main event, Seth Rollins is the name on everybody’s lips. The Architect cashed in his Money in the Bank briefcase to defeat Brock Lesnar and Roman Reigns to walk out of the match with the gold around his waist. With Lesnar now kayfabe suspended in order to take time off television, Rollins is now the standard-bearer of WWE, and has the Authority by his side to maintain his stance atop the company.

However, with the crowning of any new champion, one of the first questions that springs to mind is this: when will Seth Rollins lose the WWE Championship? With every titleholder there is a wealth of opportunity and scenarios that can play out. After Lesnar’s reign where as champion he was absent for long periods of time, it is refreshing to have one that will turn up week after week, because the chance for shocks will be more likely. Rollins is the main heel on RAW, and a heel on top always makes the action a bit more exciting for the chasing pack.

Obviously, Lesnar has a rematch clause that wasn’t used on the post-WrestleMania edition of RAW, and so will certainly be in line to face Rollins. Yet, due to the part-time deal of his contract and the indefinite term of the suspension imposed on him by Stephanie McMahon, it is difficult to accurately predict when that rematch will take place. SummerSlam appears the most likely candidate. As one of the big four PPVs, it will be important to ensure a huge buyrate, and Lesnar has been a big attraction at that event in the last three years, with matches opposite Triple H, CM Punk and John Cena.

Seth Rollins could easily find himself as the next name on that list, if he can hold the title until the August 23rd when SummerSlam takes place. A few months stand between Rollins and that destination, including some minor PPVs in between. His first challenger has already been set as Randy Orton for Extreme Rules. Whilst the Viper got the victory at WrestleMania over his former Authority cohort, I would be greatly surprised he can repeat the feat over Rollins at the upcoming event.

Seth Rollins and Randy Orton will likely extend their feud into Payback, and the current champion should survive through those potential banana peels. Money in the Bank and Battleground follow, but they would also be best served as filler feuds against the likes of Dolph Ziggler, Ryback or Daniel Bryan that will keep him tested but still in possession of his WWE title. The real money, especially after the path of destruction caused by Brock Lesnar, is in a match between the two, which could prove a phenomenal encounter.

In a fair fight, there is almost no way that Rollins can overcome Lesnar. It just isn’t realistic, but that does not mean that Rollins has to lose the title then either. Personally, I think Lesnar doesn’t need to be champion at this time – he’s already a huge draw whenever he appears and this will afford him the time off he requires whilst keeping the championship in focus. Don’t get me wrong, Lesnar’s reign was impressive and dominant, but it shouldn’t be repeated at the same event it happened last year.

I truly believe that by hook or by crook, Seth Rollins will hold the WWE Championship approaching the end of the year. But his run will come to an end at Survivor Series in my opinion, as by that time he will have held the championship nearly eight months and established himself as a force to be reckoned with. And, whilst a lot of people reading would not agree with this, Roman Reigns is the right man to take it off him. Those two should be kept apart as far as championship matches go until past SummerSlam, and then engage in a winding feud that leads to Reigns winning the title.

Roman Reigns is not exactly the most popular man among a loud part of the WWE Universe, that doesn’t really matter, as it generates a reaction. People want to see Roman Reigns, whether it is because you like him or you want to see him beaten to a bloody pulp. That is what made John Cena the true face of the company – he gets the crowd to express an opinion. Reigns will have more experience under his belt to add to his already excellent look and rapid improvement in the ring.

Seth Rollins’ duty is to lead the company from the front with the major angles up to that point, and I believe he is more than up to the task. He has become one of the best wrestlers, talkers and heels in the WWE today, and for a long period of time. That should hopefully equate to an equally long title reign, although you shouldn’t expect many clean victories among them. Rollins will be champion for a significant amount of time, whether fans like it or not, but stretching out his reign will simply make it sweeter for those not happy when it is finally brought to an end.
