Former WWE Writer Comments on Poor Divas Booking

Kevin Eck, a now former WWE writer, was among the staff and talent who were released in the last summer’s large budget cut. During his free time, he has started a blog titled “The Eck Factor.”
In one of Eck’s recent posts, he explained the way how to really give Divas a chance. This coincides with the “#GiveDivasAChance” Twitter movement that started last month. Check out an excerpt of what he had to say.
"What Vince apparently has failed to realized, however, is that to truly give Divas a chance, it’s not just about longer matches. Like the men, the women need compelling story lines and clearly defined characters. In those regards, WWE still has work to do, especially as it pertains to character development."
This has been an argument made by many. While the Divas are receiving multiple segment TV matches, there’s no substance to them. Why should fans be invested in these two (or more) women wrestling? There’s never any real story line other than Diva X wants the title from Diva Y.
Then the next concern is the random babyface and heel turns.
"The combination of AJ Lee’s retirement, Page going on hiatus and Naomi turning heel has left WWE with no babyface Divas (unless you count Natalya, who sometimes shows babyface traits but is part of a heel act with WWE Tag Team Champions Tyson Kidd and Cesaro)."
The Naomi heel turn came out of nowhere, leaving WWE with a greater shortage of Diva babyfaces. There is literally no true babyfaces with Paige out filming a movie. Shouldn’t WWE have realized this?
It seems like they did, but they handled it with another piece of illogical booking, as Eck explains.
"To further muddy the Divas landscape, the Bella twins — whose mean-girls act has made them the top heels in the division — came across as babyfaces on Raw this past Monday.I suppose I shouldn’t be surprised by the questionable booking. During my time on the WWE creative team, we actually were told that there really are no babyfaces or heels in the Divas division. It was strongly implied that the Divas are all just a bunch of catty chicks, most of whom are mentally unstable."
This isn’t the first time that WWE has messed with the Bella’s characters. After months of Nikki tormenting Brie in story line, the latter sister turned heel out of nowhere with the infamous kiss to AJ Lee at Survivor Series 2014. We never received a reason for this, either, as Eck further explained in his blog.
