Rhyno Should Be Added To The Main WWE Roster
By Jay Sichler
The Man Beast, Rhyno, deserves one last run on the WWE’s main roster
Back in February of this year, Rhyno made a shocking return to WWE when he appeared on NXT defeating Elias Samson. Since then, Rhyno has been a regular down in NXT competing against the likes of Baron Corbin, Finn Balor and Samoa Joe.
For his first couple of weeks Rhyno looked untouchable. He won multiple squash matches defeating his opponents in less than a minute. It seemed for a short period that Rhyno was going to have a big run down in NXT, potentially leading to a NXT championship.
However, for the last few months, Rhyno has been used to put other talent over in NXT. He has lost marquee matches to Sami Zayn, Finn Balor and Baron Corbin. Even though he has lost every match he has put on strong performances, and has done a great job putting over his opponents.
This is Rhyno’s second tour of duty with the WWE, and he could be poised to have a strong run with the company working to help develop young talent, this time. Coming to WWE after the company bought out ECW, Rhyno alongside Rob Van Dam, Tommy Dreamer and Raven were the talent from ECW that WWE decided to sign after buying the company.
Rhyno was red hot when he came to WWE in 2001. He was the final ECW Champion and ECW Television Champion and was coming in with a ton of momentum. He became the new monster of ECW after Tazz left for WWE in 2000. Had ECW not have folded, Rhyno was slated to become the new face of the company.
Rhyno debuted in WWE in 2001, and made headlines when he defeated Kane for the Hardcore Championship. He also made it to the Semi-Finals of the 2001 King of The Ring. He would lose to the eventual winner Edge. He was a key member of the Alliance during the Invasion angle in 2001, with Rhyno being in the main event of the Invasion PPV in 2001, in the Inaugural brawl.
He then entered a feud with Chris Jericho which was highlighted by one of the most famous moments in the history of SmackDown when Rhyno gored Jericho through the old SmackDown stage. Later in the fall, Rhyno went on to win the United States Championship, but his reign and run was halted when he suffered a neck injury.
Rhyno would not return to the company until 2003 on the SmackDown brand. However, he was not able to produce the run he was having in 2001 and was released from the company in 2005.
Rhyno was able to resurrect his career during his time in TNA. He was able to win the NWA Heavyweight Championship, and remained in the main event picture during his time in TNA.
With Rhyno’s experience and his ability to still deliver solid matches, Rhyno should be added to the main roster. With the mid-card currently lacking star power adding Rhyno would help give a jolt into the mid-card situation. A prefect rivalry for Rhyno would be against Ryback.
Baring bad booking and experiencing a string of bad luck on injuries, Rhyno would’ve of been what Ryback is today. Rhyno would’ve been the big hurting brute that Ryback has become. With Ryback currently in a lifeless feud with The Miz and Big Show, feuding with Rhyno would be a step up.
Rhyno and Ryback have a similar style and they could go out their and have 10-15 minute smash mouth matches where they would be physical battles. Rhyno could be booked as the veteran looking for one last run and will tear through anyone to get his last shot.
Putting Rhyno in a weak mid card in WWE at the moment would really help beef it up a bit, and it would add a veteran that the mid card currently doesn’t have. Rhyno is a ring general, and he could have excellent matches with a wrestler with almost any type of style.
He’s shown in NXT he can hang with a power house like Corbin. He could work with a fast paced performer like Finn Balor. And he showed he could work with an all around talent like Samoa Joe. If Rhyno could do all that in NXT then, there is no reason Rhyno couldn’t have excellent matches with the likes of Dolph Ziggler, Ryback, Rusev and Kevin Owens.
Rhyno could be the experienced veteran that help’s put the younger talent over and makes them look good in the process. He’s been doing it down in NXT for the last few months, so why not add him to the main roster?
