NJPW: How Shinsuke Nakamura Can Still Main Event Wrestle Kingdom 10

The King of Strong Style, Shinsuke Nakamura still has a chance to main event NJPW’s Wrestle Kingdom 10

Yesterday saw the conclusion of one of the greatest NJPW G1 Cimax’s of all time. The final saw Shinsuke Nakamura battle Hiroshi Tanahashi in a 5 star match of the year candidate. Despite popular belief that Nakamura was going to win the Final, he lost the back and forth battle to Tanahashi.

A popular belief as to why Tanahashi won the final over Nakamura is the fact that this was the 25th annual G1 climax tournament. The feeling is since NJPW booked this as the biggest tournament of all time they wanted the face of NJPW to win it (Tanahashi). If Wrestle Kingdom 10 was tomorrow the main event would be Hiroshi Tanahashi vs. Kazuchika Okada in the main event.

Though that matchup would produce a fantastic main event these have met each other in two of the last three Wrestle Kingdom main event’s (2013,2015). With New Japan building this to be the biggest event of all time, it seems doubtful that New Japan would give its audience the same main event they saw last year.

Even though Tanahashi won a contract to main event Wrestle Kingdom 10 by winning the G1 Climax tournament, he is not guaranteed to main event the event. Starting at New Japan’s next pay per view Destruction on September 27th, Tanahashi will have to defend his contract for the main event at Wrestle Kingdom 10.

There are three more major pay per view’s until Wrestle Kingdom 10 (Destruction, King of Pro-Wrestling and Power Struggle) Tanahashi will have to defend his contract at all three events. With the way Tanahashi and Nakamura tore the house down last night, it is almost a guarantee they will battle at-least once for Tanahashi’s contract.

If Nakamura was to win the contract it could potentially set up a possible main event with fellow Chaos Stable mate Kazuchika Okada. Nakamura and Okada fought in a fantastic match on Saturday to determine the winner of the Block B of the G1 Climax tournament. Having two stable mates battle in the main event of Wrestle Kingdom 10, would be an interesting and unique main event and the two would definitely  live up to the hype.

The road to Wrestle Kingdom 10 has just begun and there are sure to be twist’s and turn’s before we get to the big event inside the Tokyo Dome.

Jay’s Note’s– Even though he lost the NJPW G1 Climax final, I still believe that Nakamura will be in the main event of Wrestle Kingdom 10. I don’t envision New Japan booking Okada and Tanahashi for the third time in four years. With the caliber of five-star matches Nakamura has put on for the last year I believe he’ll be rewarded by being in the main event of Wrestle Kingdom 10.
