Report: Alberto Del Rio and Rey Mysterio Considered WWE Return
Rey Mysterio and Alberto Del Rio are open to returning to WWE. Read on to find out who could be standing in their way.
Always looking to expand their influence in Mexico, the WWE could be considering the return of two of their most popular superstars, Alberto Del Rio and Rey Mysterio. According to The Wrestling Observer Newsletter, both are open to making a comeback to the WWE if the conditions are right.
"“In regards to Rey Mysterio and Alberto Del Rio returning to WWE in the future, the mentality right now is they aren’t looking to come back to the company. They would however consider it if a reduced scheduled was put on the table because they are doing very well right now working whenever they want to.”"

Last month, a report surfaced (via WhatCulture) claiming the WWE and Mysterio were in very casual, early talks about him making a return. However, at this point a deal is unlikely.
Mysterio and Del Rio left the company at different times, however their departures were each controversial in their own ways. Mysterio, a three-time WWE World Champion, suffered through numerous injuries during his career, especially during the final couple of years. While on sabbatical to heal a wrist injury suffered last year, the WWE reportedly extended Mysterio’s contract without his permission, which he then disputed by appearing on AAA programming. His contract expired officially last February and he has wrestled for AAA ever since.
Apparently Triple H and Vince McMahon are at odds over bringing Rey back. Vince, who didn’t want to release Rey in the first place, is now resistant to the idea of Rey returning because he doesn’t want to send the message superstars can come and go as they please. However, he and Triple H acknowledge the WWE is really in need of a Mexican superstar on the roster right now, especially with WrestleMania XXXII taking place in Texas.
Del Rio, who now wrestles as Alberto El Petron, has always been a favorite of Vince McMahon. The WWE Chairman always appreciated his flamboyant millionaire persona and technical in-ring skill.
The four-time WWE World Champion and WrestleMania headliner ran into trouble in August 2014 after a physical altercation with a WWE employee who may have made a racist remark. Del Rio was fired two days later for “unprofessional conduct”. The employee has since been fired as well, and Del Rio has consistently said he was merely standing up for himself.
Mysterio’s injury history could be the major hurdle to WWE re-signing him. Although it’s hard to dispute the potential in a feud between him and the high-flying Neville. Del Rio has been wildly successful on the indie circuit, wrestling for AAA, Ring of Honor, and Lucha Underground.
