WWE has to once again up the ante for Monday Night Raw.

As they do every Fall, WWE is once again going up against Monday Night Football. Tonight serves as the season premiere of Monday Night Football as ESPN is set to air a doubleheader featuring the Atlanta Falcons against the Philadelphia Eagles, and the Minnesota Vikings against the San Francisco 49ers.

To combat the Monday Night Football doubleheader, WWE is referring to tonight’s edition of of Monday Night Raw as the season premiere of the show. Further emphasizing that hype, WWE has scheduled two championship matches. Nikki Bella will defend the Diva’s championship against Charlotte, and the The New Day will be defending their Tag Team championships against the Prime Time Players.

Effective booking for a season premiere.

One of these matches will provide an update to the biggest cliffhanger from last season of Monday Night Raw.

Over the course of the past year, there has been no greater storyline for WWE than their feud with former superstar CM Punk. The feud between the two parties is very much alive and evidence of that would be the handling of Nikki Bella’s reign as Diva’s championship.

If Bella defeats Charlotte on Monday, she is guaranteed of having the longest reign in WWE history as Diva’s champion. The former Diva that Bella would be surpassing is AJ Lee. Lee being the current wife of CM Punk.

As childish as it may seem, the thought is that WWE wants Bella to surpass Lee because of Lee’s marriage with Punk. That would be the reason Bella has rarely defended the Diva’s championship as WWE has been counting down the days until she breaks the record books. So if Bella is booked to win on Monday night over Charlotte, then that can only be looked as a slap to the face of Lee–but also–Punk.

However, if Charlotte wins on Monday night, then perhaps that will be a sign that WWE has dropped their grudge against Punk.

In any event, Charlotte vs. Nikki Bella on Monday night will be the highlight of the night.
