Daniel Bryan’s Return to the WWE Should Include Seth Rollins, Kevin Owens
By Dean Siemon
It has been a while since we’ve seen Daniel Bryan in the ring due to injuries and fans are excited about his potential return. If and when he does, two WWE superstars who should be involved are Seth Rollins and Kevin Owens.

There was a glimmer of hope that Daniel Bryan was going to return soon to the WWE after there were several announcements about how he was advertised for the upcoming European Tour in November. Even though he’s been removed, along with John Cena, one would start to think that we might be seeing a return at some point – which should expand beyond just a one or two months.
This requires some long-term planning that could lead to a fan’s dream triple-threat match at WrestleMania 31.

One of the most obvious choices is to throw him right back into a feud with Seth Rollins for the WWE World Heavyweight Championship. Considering that Rollins is still building as a main event heel in the WWE and needs to continue building that legacy with strong opponents, a returning Bryan would give him some extra heel heat as the guy who denies him the championship. It would also be a title match that a larger number of wrestling fans have dreamed of – especially if they can be given no less than 20 minutes to present a clinic at the end of a pay-per-view.
How this return is packaged has to be done carefully considering the championship is going to be the most predictable title for him to go after. The opportunities for a great story are already there when you consider the fact that Bryan has had his wars with the “Authority” and Triple H, who has made Rollins sort of a protegé in many ways. It would be best if they could have it as a main event for November’s Survivor Series pay-per-view to make sure there is a solid main event for one of the company’s biggest events of the fall.
At the same time, we’ve had similar events happen when Bryan returned from his 2014 injury shortly after completing the feel-good story at WrestleMania 30. That means going with this route has to include something fresh and will capture the interest of the fans, which is why this could be a quality opportunity to elevate the growing star in Kevin Owens.
Any smart wrestling fan with knowledge of the independent scene knows there is a lot of history between Bryan and Rollins, and throwing in Owens can add an extra layer. That doesn’t mean including Owens in the world championship picture, but as a way of being selected to become Triple H’s new “golden boy.”
Since being signed to NXT, Owens has been found on social media with Triple H. The man who is expected to take over for Vince McMahon has already shown how much he likes the current Intercontinental Champion.

Let’s say Bryan and Rollins are in a back-and-forth match at Survivor Series and it looks as if we’re about to see the American Dragon reclaim the championship he technically never lost. Knowing that the Authority is likely to still have some disdain against Bryan, this could be an opportunity for Owens to get involved as surprising support to allow Rollins to retain. The next night on Raw, we learn about how Owens has become a new member of the Authority and, in some sense, act as an upgrade to J&J Security – apologies to Jamie Noble and Joey Mercury.
It’s definitely something new and actually sets up a feud between Bryan and Owens for the Intercontinental Championship. The two haven’t had a chance to wrestle against each other in the WWE, so there will be a lot of interest in how they click within the WWE ring.
This can go for a few months as we lead up to the Royal Rumble, which is like the kickoff to the Road to WrestleMania. During this time, you can start seeing Rollins feeling like he might be getting replaced by the striving Owens.
How the fans react to both could decide the future of whether Owens and Rollins both remain strong heels, or one of them makes the switch to babyface. The two could build towards a feud that involves the WWE World Heavyweight Championship.
What about Bryan after those feuds with Rollins and Owens? This is where we might see a return to the Royal Rumble match where Bryan could earn a shot in the main event. Sure, he’s done the whole main event storyline for the title, but not with two superstars with a very similar background on the independent scene.
It all starts with the return and hopefully, if done right, it could set up a quality main event in April.
