WWE Hell in a Cell 2015: Why Charlotte Must Defeat Nikki Bella

The Divas Revolution took a great turn when Charlotte won the Divas Championship, but why does she need to hold on to the belt?

When Charlotte made Nikki Bella tap out at Night of Champions, to win the WWE Divas Championship, that was finally the start of the Divas Revolution. We’ve seen a record-breaking title reign from Nikki in the last year or so, that was probably more to do with trying to get one over on the former record holder AJ Lee (and in turn her outspoken husband CM Punk). While Nikki was champion the Divas division was more of a tie in to the Total Divas TV show, with little thought really thrown at the actual talent in the ring making an impact.

Now that Charlotte has her hands on the belt we can move away from the era of “Divas” and towards the era of the Women’s Division. Whilst in NXT the likes of Charlotte, Paige, Sasha Banks and Becky Lynch have proved they can wrestle, they have proved they can be as good as the men, they now just need the chance to prove that on the main roster. With Charlotte holding on to the belt coming out of Hell in a Cell, the sky is the limit for the women who can wrestle just as good as their male peers.

Charlotte is one of the best female wrestlers that WWE has at their disposal and one of the best to exclusively come through their system in the last 10 years. The fact her father is a true living legend of professional wrestling history should make the fact she’s so good no surprise at all. You can throw her into the ring with anyone of the other women on the roster and she will always pull a good match out of the bag. With her as champion it gives you the reassurance that the title will be built up as a prestigious championship, in a similar way to how the NXT Women’s Championship is seen in the eyes of the fans.

In the record-breaking reign of Nikki Bella, we saw a lot of matches follow the same route, usually a quick win or by some shenanigans (anyone for some Twin Magic) for her to keep hold of her belt. With Charlotte at the helm of the Divas division, it can have some prestige brought back, and actually build the women up as a group that will actually draw fans to television or to the arena to see them perform. There’s definitely a place for the women who star on Total Divas. However, it’s not with a title belt around their waist.

    • With the Divas division basically split into a few different factions there’s no shortage of future opponents for Charlotte to face. There would be money in feuds with Paige, Sasha Banks, Natalya and even her close friend Becky Lynch, we just need to get Nikki and her re-match out-of-the-way first. Paige has tried to turn her back on the rest of Team PCB in the last few weeks, her promos have been a breath of fresh air since Charlotte won at Night of Champions. The addition of Natalya to the proceedings has been a welcome return for a woman who seemed somewhat lost in the last year or so.

    The Divas title could be as important as any of the second tier championships in WWE, they just need booking in a way that allows the women to show off their skills, to give it their all in the ring, in short to do what they do better than anyone else and WRESTLE.

    If Nikki can come out of the match and head into a feud revolving around the love triangle with John Cena and Dolph Ziggler then that takes away one team from the feuding women’s roster. Push Charlotte to the moon and allow her to actually beat her challengers in the ring. Allow Paige to be a renedage heel, Natalya to be the wrecking machine from the Hart Dungeon, Becky to kick some ass and Sasha to prove to a bigger audience that she really is The Boss, the future of the
