WWE Hell in a Cell Rumors: Vince McMahon Unhappy with Blood at Show?

Did Brock Lesnar and the Undertaker send Vince into a rage with their decision at Hell in a Cell to make the match more colorful?

Since the middle of 2008, WWE switched all of their programming over to a PG-rating, to not only make their brand more palatable towards advertisers, but it was also a year before Linda McMahon officially announced her candidacy to run for Senator of Connecticut. The latter reason can be filed under “Joshua Gagnon’s pro wrestling conspiracy theories” and we’ll save that topic another day.

At any rate, since 2008, WWE has been all about rainbows and butterflies, which also brought along a strict “no blood” policy, that was put in place for all of their talent. Sure, accidents happen, and that’s what the ringside doctor is there for, but the policy prohibits intentional blading, typically done by making a quick, light cut, to the forehead with a razor blade. The head tends to bleed more, so pairing that with a lot of sweat, and you have the recipe for a classic crimson mask, which is rarely seen in WWE today.

During the main event of Hell in a Cell, both Brock and Undertaker ended up bloodied during the match, here’s what looks to have caused each wrestler’s cut.

Brock’s looks to have been done the “hard way” or, not doing it intentionally, by bashing his head on the ringside pole. It seems that he missed the mark, as the gash ended up being near the crown of his head, and required 18 staples to close it up. You can see Undertaker used a blade to cut his forehead, and then, apparently, threw the blade under the apron.

If breaking the “no blood” policy wasn’t bad enough, Brock decided to push down the ringside Doctor, while he was just doing his job of cleaning Brock’s massive cut. This was definitely not planned as the cameras weren’t even directly focused on them, nor did the announcers make mention of the disrespectful act.

During all of this, Vince McMahon was backstage, and well, it didn’t sound like he was too happy.

I’m sure both the ref and doctors just loved that. Make sure those replays are in black and white, think of the children!

Dave Meltzer of the Wrestling Observer and Mike Johnson of PWInsider.com (h/t Cageside Seats) each agreed that there was a “commotion” backstage, but it wasn’t quite as bad as initially described. Although, Vince did not appreciate the Doctor being throw down during the match, since he was just doing his job.

After the match, there wasn’t any immediate heat on Brock or Undertaker for what they did out in the ring, not to say they couldn’t be fined down the road. The Undertaker now looks to be embroiled in a feud against The Wyatt Family, most likely setting up a Survivor Series match, next month. Brock is said to be done for the year, possibly returning around the Royal Rumble, to start building a feud towards WrestleMania.
