Why is Sasha Banks Not Being Used on Camera, WWE?

facebooktwitterreddit

After two of the best women matches in pro wrestling’s history, Sasha Banks has been criminally underutilized since her call-up to the WWE’s main roster.

Sasha Banks put over current NXT Women’s Champion Bayley not once, but twice, in two of the best matches all year-long. The fact that many are still talking about Banks’ matches with Bayley is a testament to how good both performers are, specifically Banks.

Banks made her WWE debut in July with Charlotte and Becky Lynch, dropped the title to Bayley during NXT TakeOver: Brooklyn the night before SummerSlam, and hasn’t hardly been seen since. It’s almost a crime that one of WWE’s best overall performers — male or female — is being hidden for a company that needs a major jolt.

Let’s face it: WWE’s product right now isn’t that entertaining. Does having a guy like Alberto Del Rio return help matters? Sure, but now John Cena is currently on “vacation”, along with part-time stars like The Undertaker and Brock Lesnar working lighter schedules than in years past. Roman Reigns has had a solid year since the WrestleMania 31 swerve, but he’s still having a hard time reaching more demographics in the company.

Charlotte winning the Divas title from Nikki Bella was good to see, but it’s been an adventure trying to figure out if fellow PCB member Paige is a face or a heel. She’s had more turns in the last two months than Big Show and that’s saying something. Since the whole “Divas Revolution” was brought to the main roster, all we’ve seen is pointless six-woman tag team matches, one title change and a lasting feeling of confusion.

So, the question remains: Why isn’t Sasha Banks being used more?

Bleacher Report’s lead WWE writer Ryan Dilbert made a great point with his most recent 10-Count piece. His top featured point in the piece? WWE’s misusage of Sasha Banks.

"Near the top of the WWE writing’s team’s list of priorities, there needs to be these five words: Find something for Sasha Banks.WWE can’t have a wrestler that great and let her watch the action from behind the curtain. It can’t keeping scripting three hours of Raw without her. It can’t keep ignoring the echoing “We want Sasha!” chants than fill the arena each time another set of women go to battle instead of her."

He’s not wrong. You have three hours every Monday night. Find something for your best female talent. Now.

As a team putting together shows for the main roster, how do you not put this on your card constantly?

What more does the woman have to do to prove she’s one of the best performers the company has? She’s the top female in the business today. With no disrespect to the rest of the hard-working women in the company today who bust their tails every single day too, Banks is the best and it’s not really close either.

Think back to Seth Rollins’ rise to becoming the face of the company and a new realm of stardom. They recognized they had an opportunity to build a megastar with a huge (and bold) swerve and they made it work to perfection. Banks has that same potential in terms of the women’s division. She brings a sense of beauty, hard work, swagger, confidence and loads of talent.

The women’s division has needed a big star for a long time. Trish Stratus is the unquestioned greatest performer in women’s wrestling. Sasha Banks can provide the same type of impact on the business. She’s that good.

Personally, I see so much Stratus in Banks. Her attitude, the way she plays to the crowd, her improvement from the beginning at NXT to now; she’s a true example of what this business is all about.

When performers of other companies are praising her work, maybe you should stop hiding her from the public, huh?

We don’t just chant her name because we’re bored. (We are, but that’s not the only reason why.) We chant her name because we want to see the best. She’s one of the best the business has to offer.

We are serious when we say, “We want Sasha!”
