Why Sheamus and The Authority Are Best for Business in WWE

We take a look at why Sheamus and The Authority combining is the best thing that WWE could have done coming out of Survivor Series.

When Roman Reigns won the WWE World Heavyweight title tournament at Survivor Series things just didn’t feel right. It was so obvious that this would be the outcome of the whole thing, right from the moment that Triple H offered Reigns the opportunity to be part of The Authority a couple of weeks ago on Raw. While all along I hoped that it would happen that way, I also hoped that we’d see Sheamus come out to cash in his Money in the Bank opportunity and win the belt. How happy I was when all that played out perfectly.

The majority of the crowd would not have reacted well had Reigns walked out on Raw with the big gold belt around his waist. We heard boos as he stood proud in the ring with the belt last sunday in Atlanta, they would have been magnified if he’d walked out in Nashville with the title. The perfect way to keep the whole Reigns vs. Authority story line going was to throw the Celtic Warrior into the mix. This could be a great way to keep the chase alive and help replace the gaping hole left in the wake of Seth Rollins’ injury nightmare.

After what seemed like forever Sheamus’ feud with Randy Orton ended, he has bounced around the lower mid-card for the last few months, even appearing on pay per view pre=shows just to keep him on the show. His alliance with King Barrett and Rusev in a loosely based European team has kept him busy the last few weeks. One thing that’s remained constant has been all the time he’s proudly held that Money in the Bank case in his hand.

Now that Sheamus finds himself as the chosen Champion of Triple H and Stephanie McMahon, he can become the top heel the company needs to fill Rollins’ shoes. That may not be easy to do but with some sensible booking it can be done. Sheamus is one of the better heavyweight’s in the ring. He already has boos raining down on him from the crowd the “You look stupid” chant he gets every week is an easy way for him to get heat from the crowd. If he plays up the Irishman side he has the despicable foreigner schtick he can rely on too. His main attribute could be the alliance with Barrett and Rusev. Having them both put in the way of anyone who wants to challenge the new champion, in the way that Reigns had to face Rusev on Raw, is the perfect way to allow him to dodge any opponents. Rather than having to watch him get beaten on TV, in a similar way to Rollins did regularly during his title reign, he can push Barrett and Rusev into those matches instead. Allowing a build to actually seeing him face his challengers one on one. That will infuriate the crowd and the men he is seemingly ducking in the ring week after week.

Having Sheamus be the hand-picked man who Triple H gives his backing to will also give him instant heat with everyone. As much as you may hate the bad guy, the bad guy with the backing of the evil bosses will always be that bit more hated. Sheamus has all the ability to succeed in the role he is now finding himself pushed into. With a bit of time to allow him to gloat, allow him to back away from his opponents and then build up to big pay per view matches, and to allow him the opportunity to again prove himself capable of filling that top spot, Sheamus will prove Best for Business.
