This is a rematch from WrestleMania 31’s main event, except with the roles reversed.

While Reigns is not the WWE World Heavyweight Champion as of this writing, many expect him to win the title off Sheamus by WWE Royal Rumble in Jan. He would then defend the title at WrestleMania 32 against the Royal Rumble winner.

Lesnar has no feuds lined up for his return, which could be in Dec. It could mean he’s open for a Royal Rumble appearance, where he would be the heavy favorite to win. This would make sense too, given WWE’s injury struggles of late. They’ll need another big draw to headline WrestleMania 32 and Lesnar would fit the bill.

WWE’s plan is for Reigns to be a centerpiece of the company going forward. Having him fend off and pin Lesnar in the main event of the biggest show of the year would catapult him there permanently. No one would be able to touch the former Shield man going forward and he’d have a ton of momentum.

Whether WWE makes the call to put this as the main event of WrestleMania 32 would be interesting. Doing a rematch is something that fans won’t love, but given the appeal of Lesnar and Reigns, it could work.
