Why WWE Needs a Divas Pay-Per-View Now
Divas Revolution? If WWE wants to show true commitment to their Divas division they would give them a PPV.
As the WWE continues to try and bolster their women’s roster and push ahead with the so-called “Divas Revolution”, they continue to show each month that gender inequality is alive and well. With twelve PPV events a year, most of which feature maybe one Divas match if we’re lucky, there’s a perfect opportunity to balance the scales a little bit by giving the talented roster of ladies a PPV to call their own. It’s long past due and no better time than now.
The worst aspects of WWE’s monthly PPV schedule were on display at last weekend’s TLC show. While the in-ring action was hot, the storyline support simply wasn’t there. It gets that way practically every year just before the “Road to WrestleMania” picks up steam. This would be a perfect time to give fans something fresh by focusing on the women, who too often are left to divvy up a few minutes of ring time on TV each week. Not only does this give creative a few more weeks to build up feuds for the most important PPVs of the year leading up to WrestleMania, but it gives their significant female fanbase something to look forward to and invest in.

Detractors will say that audiences won’t pay to watch women’s wrestling, but recent history proves that to be completely untrue. An important step WWE could take would be to include the NXT women’s roster in this PPV, and nobody can dispute the phenomenon that has been NXT’s women’s division. They’ve routinely stolen the show at each NXT Takeover event, and many of their biggest stars have made an impact on the main roster despite not having the same amount of screen time they’re accustomed to.
Back when TNA Impact Wrestling was experiencing their moment in the sun, it was the women’s division, led by stars such as Gail Kim and Awesome Kong, that scored their highest ratings. At one time TNA toyed with the idea of giving the women their own separate show, which likely would have garnered them international acclaim. Women’s wrestling has earned a higher level of respect around the world than here in America, and WWE could take the first major step towards changing that perception.
Think about some of the matchups that fans are missing out on. Who wouldn’t want to see a Bayley vs. Charlotte title match headlining a major PPV? What about Asuka vs. Paige? Nia Jax vs. Becky Lynch? Eva Marie vs. Tamina? Okay, maybe not so much on that last one.

The idea that fans don’t care about women’s wrestling is all about perception. WWE hasn’t treated the division like it matters and fans pick up on that. The Divas Revolution failed because WWE couldn’t devote time to defining any of their characters, so they threw them in one pointless match after another. But if WWE makes a real effort, and providing a solid PPV event headlined by their Divas is a way to do that, then they’ll reap the benefits in the long run.
