With Chris Jericho back in WWE, what should he do while he’s back?

Amongst all the happenings in the wrestling world in the last few days, you may have missed the fact that a six-time World Champion made a comeback during Raw. Yes, folks, The Ayatollah of Rock and Rolla, Chris Jericho is back!

The news of his return had broken earlier in the day. Jericho posted on social media that he was back home in Canada as soon as the news came out. When the New Day started a countdown to give the fans a new years gift, it quickly turned into the familiar Jericho style countdown. When the fans in the arena realised what was about to happen they gave him a decent reception, Jericho is one of the few men who can come back and actually contribute to the show. His microphone work is amongst the best in the business and his ring work is still to a ridiculously high standard.

Seeing him verbally joust with the members of New Day was a little new years treat. Jericho plays his character brilliantly, telling the crowd he was here to save Raw and the WWE, New Day told him they didn’t need him to save anything because they had already saved WWE. Hearing them all going back and forth brought back memories of Jericho’s original WWE debut, in a segment with The Rock, way back in 1999. Jericho may look a little older but he still has all the attributes to be a big asset to WWE.

More from Royal Rumble

Jericho ended the segment by announcing he was entering the Royal Rumble in a couple of weeks time and was going on to WrestleMania. He did say to face the WWE Champion in the main event, but now we know the Rumble match will be to win the WWE Championship. How much did I mark out at the thought of Chris Jericho standing tall at the end of the Royal Rumble, lifting the World Heavyweight title for the 7th time? Quite a lot if I’m honest.

Jericho was the first ever Undisputed WWE Champion. He’s a multi-time Intercontinental Champion, has held the tag team titles with numerous team mates. He is one of the few men who has successfully crossed the lines from wrestling into entertainment and come back with a lot to offer. In a time when WWE is desperate for main stream acceptance, Jericho could be one of the best avenues they have to do that.

  • Now that we know the Rumble is for the title we need guys who can be seen as legitimate world title holders. With all respect to the likes of Bray Wyatt and Dolph Ziggler, they don’t add a lot of weight to the fact that we’re meant to think someone else will walk away wth the title. We are desperately in need of a little swerve with the title and the perfect man to do that is a certain Mr. Chris Jericho.

While he may not be back for a long time, Jericho can make an impact while he is here. Having Jericho in the match adds you a legitimate World title holder, who could be the perfect heel to snatch the belt with the backing of Mr McMahon. It was Mr McMahon after all who had the foresight to give Jericho wins over both Stone Cold and The Rock in one night to win the Undisputed Championship. Why not have McMahon bring back the “Best in the World” Y2J character. The egocentric, antagonistic heel who will tell everyone how good he is and back it up by getting his hands on the title.

We all know that we’re heading for Roman Reigns vs. Triple H at some point, most likely WrestleMania. That match more than likely won’t be for the title. The best thing for business now would be for a brand new champion to come to the fore. The brand new World Heavyweight Champion should be Chris Jericho.

As Jericho himself says he’s “The Best in the World at what I do” it’s time to see that now. One final run with the WWE World Heavyweight Championship and put over a new guy in the main event at WrestleMania. If you want a boost to the TV ratings. If you want to increase the WWE Network subscriptions. If you want to get people talking about your in ring product. Then throw a Chris Jericho shaped road block in front of Roman Reigns and have him walk away from the battle royal as the new WWE World Heavyweight Champion.
