Stephanie McMahon gave off the impression of a face authority figure on Monday Night Raw, will it last or does she have something up her sleeve?

Something was different about Stephanie McMahon on the post-Payback edition of Monday Night Raw.

McMahon opened up the show. Over the course of the past two years, fans have grown accustomed to McMahon opening up Monday Night Raw with a lengthy promo that further highlighted her position as a heel authority figure. That was not the case on Monday night.

As McMahon began addressing the WWE Universe, she was joined in the ring by her brother and co-general manager of Raw, Shane McMahon. Instead of maintaining her heel authority impression, Stephanie presumably changed her tune. Stephanie gave Shane a gift in the form of the picture of he and their father. The same picture that Vince McMahon destroyed during the weeks leading up Wrestlemania 32. Stephanie also allowed Shane to pitch his ideas for the show on Monday night.

That was not the only out-of-character moment for Stephanie. Later in the night, Stephanie joined Dean Ambrose on an edition of “The Ambrose Asylum”. Stephanie’s appearance with cut short after Chris Jericho appeared and attacked Ambrose.

Stephanie was not done there.

After it was essentially confirmed that Ric Flair was the one behind the false finish at Payback in the match between Charlotte and Natalya, Stephanie announced that there would be a rematch between the two at Extreme Rules. Furthermore, Stephanie announced that the match between Charlotte and Natalya would be a submission match and that Ric Flair was banned from ringside.

So, after night one of the partnership between Stephanie and Shane, WWE would like us to think that Stephanie has changed from a heel authority figure to a face authority figure.

Should we buy it?

Logic would tell us that Stephanie has something up her sleeve but what is it?

The theory here is that Stephanie wants to play buddy buddy with her brother only to set him for some type of swerve. Perhaps, the swerve would include the on-screen return of Stephanie’s husband, Triple H. Throughout their time as The Authority, Stephanie and Triple H have made a habit of using trust as a way to facilitate their own agenda. The agenda for Stephanie McMahon may be to draw her brother close before eventually trying to take him out when he least expects it.

In any event, trusting Stephanie McMahon as a face authority character is something that likely does not have a long-shelf life.
