Ryback Would Benefit from Leaving WWE

Ryback might be on his way out the door from WWE, but that might be the best decision for his professional career.

A relationship that has been on a rocky road for a long period of time is often one that needs to come to an end that benefits both parties. When it comes to Ryback having gone home after the reports of a contract dispute he has with WWE, now would be the time to start looking at all of the options for the rest of his career.

Let’s start with how departing from WWE would be a good thing for Ryback. When he first debuted his current character back in 2012, it did come across as a Goldberg character where he would look dominant against superstars on the lower end of the match-card. Sure, he wasn’t doing anything special, but he filled a spot on the card as the machine that went on that long winning streak that excites fans – and it grew as he would pick up multiple men for his finishing move.

Things fell south when he fell short in his WWE Championship pursuits, being beaten up by the Shield and eventually losing to John Cena. Between 2013 and 2015, we saw Ryback be teamed up with Curtis Axel and rarely made any kind of impact in WWE. While he’s won the Intercontinental Championship since then, he hasn’t really had a lengthy title run and that winning streak that put him on the map in 2012 feels like a wasted effort.

There has not been consistent booking through the WWE creative team, but that has sort of been the problem for a number of talents who have debuted since then. Today’s WWE has evolved with a fan base that has continued to change what they look for in their top talents. Now that has settled recently as the WWE fans for the past month have really been attached to stars like A.J. Styles, Sami Zayn and the newest members of the WWE tag team division – Enzo Amore and Colin Cassady, as well as the Vaudevillians.

With more excitement building for the eventual debuts of other talents like Finn Balor and maybe even Samoa Joe, someone like Ryback doesn’t have the same appeal that he had a few years ago. The WWE roster is becoming filled with plenty of diverse talents and it’s only going to get more competitive as the NXT development brand continues to develop new superstars.

Leaving the company is not going to be the end of Ryback and while he’ll have to develop a new ring name, he’s going to attract some attention from other wrestling promotions. The best thing for someone like Ryback would be to maybe work on deals to wrestle for promotions in Japan and Mexico – where a talent like him could find a lot of success beyond what WWE would have likely offered him with the contract offer he reportedly walked out on before Monday’s Raw.

It has worked well for other guys who went overseas after leaving WWE – i.e. Matt Bloom (also known as Albert) left for Japan and became the Giant Bernard from 2005 until 2012. It seems like that might be what he’s thinking as a recent post on his social media accounts shows the man currently known as Ryback is aware of the options currently available to him outside the WWE Universe.
