What’s Next for AJ Styles After WWE Extreme Rules?
After losing to Roman Reigns at WWE Extreme Rules, what is next for AJ Styles?
At WWE Extreme Rules, AJ Styles took the loss to Roman Reigns in their WWE World Heavyweight Championship match. He put on a second straight great bout with Reigns at a pay-per-view, but also took the pinfall defeat again. Judging by WWE booking, this would mean this was the end of the Styles vs. Reigns rivalry.
So, if the Phenomenal One is out of the title picture, what’s next for him?

AJ Styles lost his match, but it should be noted that Karl Anderson and Luke Gallows won their bout. They did it without help from Styles and when the former had his, he couldn’t win with aid from The Club. Could that set something up?
It’s possible the Styles loss, plus the Anderson and Gallows win, planted the seeds for the debut of Finn Balor. If so, he would probably feud with Styles.
For weeks, the former IWGP Heavyweight Champion pushed away the help of Gallows and Anderson, saying he doesn’t need them. However, he has lost twice and kept his word. Maybe Luke and Karl get fed up with this and bring in their friend Finn soon. WWE has already acknowledged their relationship on TV a few times before.
Whenever this happens, Styles could be speaking to Anderson and Gallows in an in-ring promo until Balor comes up from behind. He could take out AJ and stand tall to former the Balor Club that fans have waited months for. This feud could then extend through the summer.
There is always the possibility this doesn’t happen, though.

The alternative could be Styles getting placed in the Money in the Bank Ladder match in the PPV of the same name on Sunday, June 19. With Reigns and Seth Rollins set to feud for the WWE World Heavyweight Championship, it likely pushes Styles out of the world title picture. He could look for one more attempt at the belt and feud with the other MITB candidates for the next month.
A Balor feud could still start, though. He could debut in the MITB match and screw Styles out of winning, setting up a feud from there. Anderson and Gallows would then have to choose the side they want to be on, join Finn, and then take out Styles.
Either way, it seems like AJ Styles and Finn Balor are going to feud at some point, and could be what’s next in line for the former. It may not be for a little bit, though, given the Money in the Bank PPV isn’t for nearly a month and Balor still has to wrestle the main event at NXT TakeOver: Revenge for the NXT Championship vs. Samoa Joe.
