Ric Flair: Finn Balor Shouldn’t Have Defeated Roman Reigns on WWE Raw

Ric Flair spoke out on his podcast about the Finn Balor vs. Roman Reigns match from WWE Raw.

The first Brand Extension episode of WWE Raw saw Finn Balor defeat Roman Reigns to earn a spot in the Univeral Championship match. Balor will face Seth Rollins for this belt at WWE SummerSlam. All of this was done during the Demon’s WWE main roster debut.

The reaction to this has been ongoing throughout the week. One of them most notable names to weigh in has been Ric Flair. He spoke on The Ric Flair Show about Balor vs. Reigns and how he thought the latter man should have won.

"“I thought Roman should have won. And I know Finn Bálor to say ‘hi’ only. I’m a big fan of Roman Reigns. And I’ll be honest with you: Finn Bálor reminds me of ‘The Dynamite Kid’. Does that make sense? They’re very similar in appearance, same kind of work, and, I mean, he’s a great performer. God, I’m certainly not taking anything away from his performance or the match, but I’m a fan of Roman Reigns, so I’m saying something that I’m partial about."

Flair then went into how much of a fan he is of Reigns, saying he’s “as handsome as can be” and “speaks well”.

The Nature Boy made a brief comment about thinking Dean Ambrose vs. Dolph Ziggler is bigger than Rollins vs. Balor.

"That doesn’t take anything away from Finn Bálor and where I think where I see Dolph against [Dean Ambrose] as being huge at SummerSlam, I see that as being a bigger match than to see Finn Bálor versus Seth Rollins. I just think Seth [has] got too much experience. And like I said before about Randy, Seth Rollins is the second Randy Orton. He’s that good.”"

He also said that he’d pay to see Ziggler vs. Ambrose over Balor vs. Rollins.

Flair’s most interesting comment was about cruiserweights headlining a WrestleMania event.

More from Daily DDT

"…and I don’t think we’ll ever see the day, and I could be totally wrong, that a cruiserweight will ever main event a WrestleMania. And that’s what you have to look at, I think, in the total picture of the [professional wrestling] business. He’s of that [cruiserweight] size. I mean, if you look at the two of them side by side, he [has] got a great physique, gosh, but he’s smaller. Yeah, I don’t think he weighs 200 pounds.”"

That statement will probably have fans up in arms. This is mostly due to Daniel Bryan, who is listed at 210 pounds, because he headlined WrestleMania XXX. While WWE considers cruiserweights anyone who is 205 pounds or less, that’s almost as close as it can get. So how much Flair’s argument holds up here may be minimal to the public.
