To open Tuesday’s episode of WWE SmackDown Live, Naomi would be forced to drop the Women’s Championship due to injury.

At the 2017 WWE Elimination Chamber pay-per-view, Naomi won her first ever title by winning the SmackDown Women’s Championship. She defeated Alexa Bliss. This resulted in a celebration of her crowning achievement, something that had been years in the making.

However, on the February 14 episode of SmackDown, Naomi noted that she had a knee injury. It wasn’t revealed how serious it was and no one reported on it, but she was given one week to heal before the decision would be made.

Well, on Tuesday’s show, Daniel Bryan opened the show and brought out Naomi. He said after looking over her medical records, he had no choice but to make her vacate the SmackDown Women’s Championship. The “30-day championship defense rule” would be used as a reason.

After this happened, Bliss entered the ring to talk about how she deserves the title. Bryan put her in a match with Becky Lynch, which would immediately take place.

It looks like we’re going to crown a SmackDown Women’s Championship very soon — as in within the next 30 minutes. All of this is surprising with how it unfolded, especially since the extent of Naomi’s knee injury hadn’t been revealed, along with how much time she would miss.
