Shinsuke Nakamura Wants AJ Styles at WWE WrestleMania 33

Shinsuke Nakamura is looking to recreate the spectacular match he had with AJ Styles in 2016 on WWE’s biggest stage.

Shinsuke Nakamura has made waves with WWE throughout his first year with the company. He became NXT’s top star upon arrival, and showcased an incredible debut match with Sami Zayn at NXT TakeOver: Dallas in April 2016. It was even one of WWE’s best matches of the year.

10 months later, Nakamura remains in NXT. His potential call-up to the WWE main roster is unknown, but it doesn’t look like it will be before WrestleMania 33, especially with the match card coming together.

Well, the King of Strong Styles is looking toward the Show of Shows, despite this. He spoke in an interview with Yahoo! Japan about who he wants to face, which is a foe very familiar to him from his time in Japan (h/t Uproxx):

"“If the [WrestleMania] opportunity presented itself, I want to do it. AJ [Styles] doesn’t have an opponent yet, and I’d like to fill that spot. I’ve achieved a lot this year, but there’s much more to do. I want to make more strides over the next year and show my true ability.”"

Styles would respond, saying he’ll have a WrestleMania match after Tuesday night. He’s in the battle royal to determine Bray Wyatt’s opponent for WrestleMania 33. They would compete for the WWE Championship.

Nakamura and AJ Styles put on a fantastic match at Wrestle Kingdom 10 for the IWGP Intercontinental Championship. This also turned out to be Styles’ second-to-last match with NJPW, before leaving for WWE later that month in January 2016.

The recreation of Nakamura vs. Styles would very much be WrestleMania-worthy. They had great chemistry in the ring then, and could put on an even better performance in front of twice the crowd size.

For this to happen, of course, Nakamura needs to be on the main roster. So fans may have to wait until 2018 or play it on WWE 2K17. Would you have any opposition to this match taking place?
