WWE SmackDown: Using Maryse After WrestleMania 33

Maryse could be in a big time match at WrestleMania 33, can she capitalize on it?

Last year, Maryse made her return to SmackDown, operating as a valet for her real-life husband, The Miz. She hasn’t entered the ring to wrestle since her return, but there are rumors she could be wrestling at WrestleMania 33. Maryse is said to be teaming with her husband to take on John Cena and Nikki Bella. It’s a high-profile spot, and Maryse and Miz fit the bill for the perfect opponents for Cena and Nikki, but WWE needs to use this to transition Maryse into a more high-profile role.

Since her return, Maryse has merely been Miz’s wife. She’s helped him pick up a few big wins, but her character has not been defined beyond being a caring, but evil spouse. If they were to make her a well-rounded character, Maryse could have a lot of value to SmackDown.

In the build to WrestleMania 33, she is going to be more fleshed out. She’s going to cut promos and do a little in-ring work, and that’s going to make her a better character to the fans.

Between that, and her time on Total Divas, Maryse’s popularity is going to reach a high-point. She could use that to get an “office role,” either replacing Daniel Bryan, or earning a job working for him and Shane McMahon, as part of a stipulation in her WrestleMania match.

She could bring an interesting dynamic as assistant to Shane and Bryan. The Commissioner and GM of SmackDown are both good guys who try to do what’s right. Maryse could use her inside track to push things in her husband’s favor, especially if she got the job through a match stipulation and couldn’t be fired. It also gives Bryan a reason to be involved in Miz’s WrestleMania match, and adds a new dynamic to their ever-present tension.

She could even take over the role that Eva Marie left behind at SummerSlam 2016, depending on how often she would be willing to get in the ring.

It’s a role she could easily fill. The beauty factor is still there, and she definitely has the ability to carry herself with the same sense of grace and arrogance that is still easy to hate.

Nobody is going to confuse her with any of the Four Horsewomen in the ring, but she doesn’t have to be on that level. She’s going to make her money in the build.

She could also use this to transition herself into being the female Miz, and follow him into some WWE Studios movies.

It’s not hard to figure out why somebody who looks like Maryse would have multiple options in an appearance-based compnay like WWE, despite not having a penchant for getting in the ring and wrestling. Still, she is good on the mic and her natural presence makes her valuable in other areas.

It’s hard to pick out exactly which role she fits best in, but it’s clear that she’s capable of being much more than Miz’s wife. WrestleMania could be her launching pad into bigger things in WWE.
