WWE: Is Triple H’s Evolution Being Reincarnated?

facebooktwitterreddit

Evolution was a mystery in 2002 and is once again in WWE in 2017.

A staple of WWE from 2002 to 2005 was the Evolution stable that ran over WWE Raw. Triple H led the way as the top guy. Ric Flair stood by him as the group’s legend, playing up to his “Dirtiest Player in the Game” nickname throughout his time with them. Batista was the muscle and Randy Orton became the rising star of the group.

Over the past few weeks, we’ve had signs of Triple H forming a stable, something that’s far from uncharted territory for him if you don’t factor in Evolution. There was D-Generation X, the Corporation, the McMahon-Helmsley Era, and the Authority, which dissolved after WrestleMania 32. But in forming the Game’s potential new faction, he was seen talking with Kevin Owens backstage and arrived with Samoa Joe in a limousine on Raw. They were dressed professionally too, which isn’t too significant, but the limo and clothing style looks similar to how Evolution arrived.

To add the cherry on top, Owens cut a promo on Goldberg during the opening segment of Monday’s episode of Raw. He emphasized the word “Evolution”, something that stuck out the most from everything else he said.

Triple H handing the WWE Universal Championship to Owens in August 2016, and bringing in Joe to take out Seth Rollins should be factored into this too. So the roots are there — it’s just the matter of how this faction comes together.

Having just Owens and Joe doesn’t seem like enough, however. A popular idea on Twitter has been to bring up the Revival from NXT, who are also known for their brutally physical attacks.

It’s all people that Triple H knows from working with them in NXT, and helping these four Superstars transition to the main roster. While that could go for anyone, Joe, Owens, Scott Dawson and Dash Wilder represent the guys that made up a significant part of the landscape of NXT as heels, which the Cerebral Assassin has portrayed since SummerSlam 2013.

If a stable of Owens, Joe, the Revival, or any one or two other bad guys come together, it would be the freshest stable created by WWE since the post-Shield era. It’s a group of wrestlers that can compete in the ring with the best and beat down your heroes, but also have had a knack for standing out in big-time spots on pay-per-views and live specials.

As for those who have been around after the Shield, the Wyatt Family have stuck around, but in incarnations and had trouble standing out with the exception of the past two months of 2016. New Day had a significant run as heels, but fell off after their babyface turn. However, do you remember the League of Nations? No? Okay.

Fastlane could be the time to put Triple H’s reincarnation of Evolution together. It can only be if Owens retains the Universal Championship over Goldberg, however. Maybe the new stable of Superstars take out the former WCW star, which would give them an immediate impact and credibility on the Raw roster. Attacking Goldberg may even be on a grander scale than Nexus brutalizing John Cena in 2010.
