Can Cedric Alexander get an opportunity to climb up the rankings of the WWE Cruiserweight Division?
Since the formation of the WWE Cruiserweight Division on Monday Night RAW—one man was poised to grab the division by its throat and drag it to the promise land. Unfortunately for him, he’s been forgotten like Casper the friendly ghost. His name is Cedric Alexander.
The former Cruiserweight Classic standout made a huge impression to the WWE Universe last summer with his breath-taking aerial assaults and gritty perseverance. His heart-breaking defeat against Kota Ibushi in the second round gave the impression to all the fans watching the tournament: the future has arrived.
You would think after that performance he would arrive to Monday Night RAW as the dark horse contender for the WWE Cruiserweight Championship. As Vince McMahon would put it: “No Chance in Hell!”
He was instead stuck in a love triangle with Alicia Fox and Noam Dar, with no real storyline progression to speak of. That entire scenario look like a bad episode of General Hospital. This fiasco benefited Dar more than it did Alexander, making the Scotsman look like a star, beating people up and stealing their girlfriends.

No sympathy was garnered for Cedric after he dumped Alicia Fox. Nobody cared for that romantic dilemma at all.
Why should the fans care?
The former ROH star never developed a character that fans can attach to. Nobody cared about a relationship between an athletic cruiserweight who barely talks and a washed up valet who barely wrestles.
So Alexander wasted a few months battling Dar with Fox by his side with no end goal. He never elevated up the rankings of the Cruiserweight Division, and now he’s eating dirt while guys like Jack Gallagher are getting a title shot.

Alexander needs an opponent to elevate him to the top of the division and help him flush out his stale character. Someone like Ariya Daivari would do wonders in helping Alexander garner a positive fan reaction. Daivari is an excellent heel who turns his opponent into a credible babyface just by crowd reaction alone — just ask Jack Gallagher.
In this day and age, having a great 10 minute match on RAW or 205 Live won’t cut it anymore. The fans need to connect with your character and actually give a darn about your overall progression.
RAW has done a disservice with the Cruiserweight Division since last year. 205 Live shouldn’t be subjected to that exact type of dilemma every Tuesday night. Instead, it showcases three matches with no relevant importance to the division, might as well call them filler matches.
The Cruiserweight Championship picture is crowded at the moment with Neville and Jack Gallagher. Cedric Alexander shouldn’t be left in limbo or be hanging around so he can be handed a title shot. He needs to be feuding with Daivari or Tony Nese for a future title shot down the line. That would add credence to 205 Live as a much watch WWE Network program.
