WWE Rumors: Baron Corbin to Receive Main Event Push on SmackDown Live
Baron Corbin will reportedly become a bigger part of SmackDown Live later this year. WWE also favors him over another rising heel.
Baron Corbin became one of the beneficiaries of the WWE Brand Split. He saw his role rise from midcard talent to the upper level within months, just missing out on the main event scene. This included a feud with Dean Ambrose, and matches with AJ Styles and John Cena.
Well, Corbin is going to receive that next step up on SmackDown Live later this year. According to the Wrestling Observer Newsletter, WWE is very high on the former NXT star — even more than Raw’s Braun Strowman. They want Corbin in the title scene, but not until later this year, which is why he won’t face Randy Orton at WWE Backlash.
An interesting add-on is that WWE may change the Lone Wolf’s promos and music. The motorcycle-sounding track always seemed to fit his character and look, so we’ll have to see what direction they go in if it’s altered.
What if this makes Corbin a favorite for the Money in the Bank Ladder match? It would fit well with a heel winning, then eventually cashing in on Orton at Battleground in the summer. That could lead to a SummerSlam match between the two for the WWE Championship. However, WWE can always place Corbin in the title picture near the end of 2017, at a time where Superstars are usually tested in different spots on the card.
Of course, this is Vince McMahon’s business, so things can change the night before they’re supposed to go down. Maybe Corbin doesn’t sniff the World title until 2018, or never gets an opportunity.
