WWE Forms Women’s Faction on SmackDown Live? (Video)

For the first time in about 18 months, it looks like we had a women’s faction form in WWE.

For the past few weeks, we had Carmella, Natalya and Tamina express frustration over Charlotte Flair joining WWE SmackDown Live during the Superstar Shakeup. She received title-contention treatment, getting an opportunity just three shows into her stay.

Flair got her SmackDown Women’s Championship shot on Tuesday’s show, facing Naomi in the main event. It felt like it would lead to the latest title reign for the Nature Girl, given everything she did on Raw. That changed in a heartbeat, though.

In what turned out to be the match’s closing moments, Carmella, Natalya and Tamina all ran down to the ring to beat down Naomi and Charlotte. This caused a disqualification, leaving the title with the One That Feels the Glow.

Repeatedly, SmackDown announcer Tom Phillips called them the “Welcoming Committee.” Note that none of WWE’s tweets about this segment including this name, so it’s possible it was just a line used to get the point over of these three women “welcoming” Flair to the brand.

What this means for the title picture will be interesting to see unfold. Either Charlotte will get another opportunity, or we’re going to have Carmella, Natalya and Tamina somehow make their way into the mix.

Becky Lynch was noticeably absent here. She had been in a backstage segment during the show, which didn’t have her pick a side. With the three heels taking out Flair and Naomi, the spot is there for Lynch to align with them.

Regarding the face-heel dynamic, are we getting a Charlotte turn? She last played a crowd-favorite role in 2015, which has its issues. Her character has come leaps and bounds since, though, so if that’s the plan, then maybe this can work.

Next Tuesday’s episode of SmackDown Live should tell us more about this trio working together. They capped off a night of more new opportunities for Superstars of the Blue Brand, which has become a trend.
