AJ Styles vs. Baron Corbin
Result: AJ Styles wins via pinfall
Rating: 4.25 out of 5 stars
Our first match of the evening is a rematch from the previous main event of SmackDown Live. The new number one contender to the United States Championship, AJ Styles, is set to face Baron Corbin. Just like last week, Kevin Owens is present at commentary.
Wasting little time to begin the action, Styles and Corbin got physical right off the bat, with the two superstars shifting control back and forth. A big kick sent Styles to the outside later on, allowing the Lone Wolf to gain an edge in the exchange. His attack would carry through the commercial break, and when we return Corbin is still wearing down the Phenomenal One. Fighting out of a superplex attempt, Styles was able to fight back into the contest with a variety of strikes.
The contest gained a lot of steam during the closing moments, with each man desperately trying to leave the arena victorious. Looking to mince words with his newfound competition, Owens decided that this was a perfect time to distract Styles. For his troubles, he received a stiff kick courtesy of the Phenomenal One. Corbin tried to capitalize off the distraction by going for a powerbomb, but he instead was rolled-up by Styles for a pinfall loss.
Before he had time to celebrate, Styles was attacked from behind by Owens. The United States Champion and the Lone Wolf laid into the Phenomenal One until Sami Zayn tried to make the save. He was able to take out Corbin, but he fell to the Prizefighter. Owens finished his attack by hitting the Pop-Up Powerbomb on Styles.
