It’s a non-title match tonight because Miz is getting his guaranteed shot next week in Newark, NJ. QUICK, WHAT’S GONNA HAPPEN WITH A CHAMPION IN A NON-TITLE MATCH?

Sticking with the theme of the night, these guys put on a good to better-than-good match, but there’s no real meaning behind it. In fact, the best part of the match was The Miz spitting fire at the commentary booth.

The other theme of the night is treading water; thankfully this match actually had some forward progress. It’s really frustrating when the best compliment you can pay to a match is, “something happened,” you know? When the night started, Miz was number one contender with a match at Extreme Rules against Ambrose. By the time tonight was over, Ambrose is in bad shape, Miz seemed to have a ton of momentum, and the match was bumped up to next week. These are good things!

It’s a little frustrating that Bray Wyatt is supposed to be the big bad of WWE, but he can’t win a match without some kind of interference. He won the House of Horrors at Payback after the Singh Brothers and Jinder Mahal attacked Randy Orton. Tonight he needs an assist from The Miz. I mean, I’m all for delegating responsibility, but sometimes you have to fly solo.

So now The Miz seems poised to win the Intercontinental Championship for a seventh time, which can only mean one thing: Ambrose will retain next week, and there will be yet another match between these two at Extreme Rules. Mark my words.
