At an NXT live event in Highland Hills, KY, Tommaso Ciampa suffered what looked to be an ankle injury after attempting a flying knee strike.
Triple H provided an update of whether Tommaso Ciampa will be able to compete alongside his DIY comrade Johnny Gargano in his scheduled ladder match against the Authors of Pain for the NXT Tag Team Championship at NXT TakeOver: Chicago.
According to a conference call conducted today by Triple H, the reason why the tag team match against SAnitY was abruptly stopped was simply done as a precautionary measure. WWE did not want to continue the match and further any damage on his injured area.
Thankfully, Triple H also stated that Ciampa is cleared to compete in the ladder match at TakeOver: Chicago. However, there will be a medical team prepared to treat Ciampa if his ankle becomes reaggravated. Seemingly, he most likely received some advice to be very cautious during his ladder match, especially since the temptation runs high to produce awe-inspiring high spots during these kinds of matches.
DIY missing the match would have been an emotional setback for the tag team, as both Ciampa and Gargano have expressed their excitement in competing once again in Chicago. Ciampa recently tweeted that he was watching the triple threat ladder match at WrestleMania 2000 between The Hardy Boyz, The Dudley Boyz, and Edge & Christian. This bout was just one of the amazing series of ladder matches the three teams had from 2000 – 2001.
Gargano posted a long statement on how much competing in Chicago means to him.
We're at home when the lights are bright at TakeOver.

Since Ciampa is good to go for TakeOver: Chicago, the NXT Tag Team Championship match will be able to fulfill the expectation as being one of the most anticipated matches on the card. Hopefully, Ciampa is healed up, and no further injury occurs during the match against the Authors of Pain.
